UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DUANE T. DAVIS, OF PANA, ILLINOIS.
GASOLINE-BURNER ATTACHMENT FOR COOK-STOVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 269,267, dated December 19, 1882.
Application filed October,20,1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DUANE T. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pana, in the county of Christian and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gasoline- Burner Attachments for Cook- Stoves, of which the following is a specificatwo.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in devices for connecting vapor-burners to cook-stoves and it consists in an improvement in the construction of the br tdge commonly used in stoves to support the covers by casting lugs or hooks on its under side, which will, when the bridge is placed in position, hook under the permanent top plate of the stove and prevent its rocking or tipping when byaccidentthestand-pipewhich supports the fluid tank or reservoir is jarred or struck, the said stand-pipe being secured to the bridge by check-nuts titted to the outside of the standpipe on either side of the bridge, securely uniting the bridge-and stand-pipe, so that they may both be lifted off at once. I attain these ob- 2 jects by the device illustrated in the accomnary fluid-reservoir.
c 0 represent the burners, which are so arranged as to stand about in the center of the opening or pot-hole of any ordinarycook-stove.
c c are check-nuts, bymeans of which the bridge is secured to the stand-pipe.
b b are thelugs or hooks which extend under the permanent top plate of the stove and prevent the bridge from becoming displaced.
When it is desired to use four burners the connection is made with the stand-pipe, as shown in Fig. 1, the connection of the standpipe and forward bridge being the same as in the use of two burners.
To remove the burners from the stove all that is required is to grasp the stand-pipe and raise the rear end of the bridge first, thus releasing the lugs' or hooks, and the whole can be, removed in an instant. The attachment of the bridge can be made to any of the ordinary two-burner gasoline-stoves, and the burners placedin the cook-stoves in the manner shown, which has proved to be exceedingly advantageous, as it takes up less space and is more convenient for general use, also insuring entire safety.
Having thus described my invention, what I believe to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As an improved article of manufacture, a device for connecting vapor-burners to a cookstove, consisting of the bridge B, having a hole to admit the stand-pipe,which is secured thereto by check-nuts or otherwise, and the lugs or hooks on the under side at the forward end of said bridge for the purpose of securely holding the bridge in place and preventing its rooking, substantially as shown and described.
2. A removable suitablyapertured stovebridge provided with lugs or projections on one side thereof, said lugs being adapted .to pass under a permanent portion of the stovetop, in combination with a fluid-reservoir and suitable burners, and a connecting-pipe passing through the aperture in said bridge, and provided with upper and lower check or clam ping nuts, whereby it is rigidly attached thereto, substantially as set forth.
