COOKING- TOVE.

Specification of Letters Patent No.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, E. J. CRIDGE, of Troy, in the county of R-ensselaer, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cooking-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in which Figure l is a perspective view; Fig. 2, a longitudinal elevation; Fig. 3, a transverse section; Fig. 4,, a section of the front.

The description of the drawings is as follows:

(A) is the fire chamber; (13,) the grate; (a, a,) air chambers on the sides of fire chamber A for the purpose of heating atmospheric air to supply through the open ings ((Z, (Z,) the chambers (b, 1),) which are formed on the feed doors (0, 0,) for the purpose of supplying heated air through the apertures (c, e, c, 0,) to the fire chamber to promote the combustion of the gases evolved by the burning fuel; (it, h, and 2', z',) openings in the sides and bottom of stove for the purpose of supplying atmospheric air to the chambers (64, a,); (f, and 9,) registers or dampers in the sides and bottom of stove to regulate the admission of cold air through the openings (h, It, and 2', 6,) to supply the chambers (a, a,) the damper or register 26,886, dated January 24, 1860.

(9,) in the bottom of stove being regulated by damper or register f,) by the cogs or notches (70, 7c, 76,) so that when the damper or register (f,) is moved the damper (9,) in the bottom is also moved at the same time; (a,) air chamber in front of fire chamber which is open at the ends to allow the air to pass through to be heated to chambers (a, a,) ((1 air chamber on the back of fire chamber which may be used to heat the air in connection with chambers (a', (1.). The arrows represent the draft or current of heated air.

Having described the construction and operation of my stove, I wish it to be distinctly understood that I do not claim any particular number of chambers that surround the fire chamber for the purpose of heating air, nor do I claim as new the supplying of heated air to the fire chamber for the purpose of promoting the combustion of the gases evolved by the burning fuel.

What I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The arrangement of the dampers or registers (f, and 9,) or their equivalents, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth and described.
