Description
G. W. OAKELEY.
I Heating Drum.
' No. 33,849. I I Patented Dec. 3', 1861.
- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. OAKELEY, OF READING, PENNSYLY'ANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HEATERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 33,849, dated December 3, 1861.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. OAKELEY, of the city of Reading, county of Berks, and State of Pennsylvania, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Atmospheric Radiators; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which drawing the figure represents a perspective View with the front or face part open in order to more clearly illustrate the interior.
A represents the outer shell or casin g, which may be of any desired size or form.
B B B B represent the inclined atmospheric tubes or fines, which are rigidly secured to the outer shell A in any convenient number of tiers, one tier being inclined in a contrary direction to that of the adjacent tier, as represented in the drawing. The inclination of the atmospheric tubes or flues creates a continual draft or current of air to pass through back and forth, as indicated by the arrows e e e e.
D D D are partitions, which are properly secured to the outer shell between the tiers of atmospheric fines, there being an open space at one end of each partition, so that the products of combustion can take a tortuous course through the radiator to the pipe N, as represented by the arrows. The cylindrical part P is furnished with adoor R, and may be made and constructed to suit any ordinary stove or furnace cylinder, at the same time serving for the top part of the stove. v
It Will be evident without further description that as the products of combustion are by the peculiar arrangement of the partition D brought into contact with the inclined flues B the latter will become thoroughly heated, and consequently that the air passing through the fines will receive a corresponding heat.
lVithout claiming, broadly, the use of inclined atmospheric flues in connection with radiators or heaters, I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The flues B B, arranged in tiers, one tier being inclined in a direction contrary to that of the adjacent tier, in combination with the inclined partitions D D, the Whole being arranged within a casing of any desired form, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
GEO. NV. OAKELEY.
itnesses:
G. S. KINSEY, GEORGE Pnrx'rz.
