SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 268,664, dated December 5, 1882.

Application filed September 25, 1882. (ModeL') To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE W. HARRIS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Sturgis, in theoounty of St. Joseph and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Watch-MakersTools;'and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in watch-makers tools, and it is designed more especially for setting ruby and jewel pins'in the roller-table of a time-keeper, or for similar purposes.

My invention consists in the construction of a jewel-holderor pinchers, and in providing said holder with a base having extension at right angles with the jaws of the piuchers; also, in providing the pinchers with a movable base having openings or slots of different sizes, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.

In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is a per-- spective view of my invention, showing the same and its relative position when applied to the roller-table of a watch to set the ruby or jewel pin. Figs. 2 and 3 are side views, showing the implement opened and closed upon the ruby-pin. I Fig. 4 is a front view, showing the foot turned horizontally. Figs. 5, 6, and 7 are perspectiveviews of the roller-tables, showing the relative position of the ruby or jewel pin Fig. 8 is a sectional view taken through the line so a: of Fig. 4, and Fig. 9 is adetail view, showing the relative position of the parts when inserting ajewel in the rollertable from which the balanee-stafi' has been removed.

In the annexed drawings, A represents the handle of my improved implement, which handleconsists ofa single strip or band of spring metal, which is bent or shaped at its upper part so as to form a loop, having the upper part curved. The base of the loop is formed by the sides converging toward each other at the point a, at which they press upon each other. One of the members, I), of this handle is curved outwardly fromthe portion a to its end I), which projects below the other member, c, which is straight from the abutting point a to its end. Attached to the member 0, so as to be capable of being reversed thereon, is a plate, B, the ends of which are bent at right angles with the body of the same. The back or body of the plate B has at its vertical ends small openings e c, which are preferably V-shaped, the wider portion of these openings being adjacent to the end of the member b of the pinchers, so as to provide a depression which will hold the roller-jewel more securely and in a vertical position. The ends of the plate B, which are formed at right angles to the same, are provided with central longitudinal slots 61 d, which are of different sizes, and extend fromtheopenings or depressions e e to the end of the horizontal portions of the plate B. The object of forming this plate with angular feet or rests, which are secured to the "member 0 of the handle A, so as to be rotated thereon, and providing the same with depressions e e and slots at d of different sizes, is to i provide a means whereby the ruby-pin or jewel 1' will be held between the pinchers in a vertical position, and to provide an implement whichcan be usedin setting the jewel in rollertables having balance-staffs of different diameters.

My invention may be used for the purpose 7 herein set forth as follows: The ruby-pin or jewel is grasped between the jaws of the implement, so that it will rest within the V- shaped opening in the foot B, wherein it is held by the end I) of the member b, a portion of the jewel extending below thejaws; which portion of the jewel is inserted and secured in the roller-table. If the balance-staff is in the roller-table, the slotted foot d of the plate or foot B will be placed over the balance-staff and will rest uponthe roller-table. 7

By the use of the tool hereinbefore described the jewel-pin is held and inserted in the roller-plate properly and easily.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States of America, is-

1. In a watch-makers tool, the handle formed of a single band of metal sprung together near its end and at a portion intermediately between I with slots of different sizes, said plate being the ends, substantially as shown.

2. The handle A, having meinbersof different lengths and provided with a slotted foot or rest attached to the shorter member, substantially as described. 7

3. The handle A, consistingofa single band of metal sprung together so as to abut at a portion above the base, and provided with a curvedmember on one side and a straight member on the other, which is provided with a reversible plate having slotted feet extendin-g outwardly at right angles therewith, for the purpose set forth.

4. In a watch-makers tool,thetweezershaving members of different lengths sprung together, the shorter member being provided with a plate having ends bent atright angles,

pivoted to the shorter member of the handle, substantially as shown.

5. As a new article of manufacture, a tool for watch-makers use, consisting of a handle made of one piece of metal sprung together at a point above the base, and provided with a plate having recesses c e and slotted end portions bent at right angles with the body of the plate. said plate being pivoted to one end of the handle, substantially as shown and described.
