BLANKET FOR INFANTS BEDS Filed Oct. 16. 1951 o E 5 INVENTOR VERA D. MOORE 1: BY 6 z ATTORlg Patented July 6, 1954 UNITED STATES ATNT OFFICE BLANKET FOR INFANTS BEDS Vera D. Moore, Tulsa, Okla.
Application October 16, 1951, Serial No. 251,483
1 Claim.
The present invention relates to a bed covering and has reference more particularly to a covering for infants beds.
It iswell known that infants and children toss and roll in bed, with the result that bed covering becomes displaced, leaving the infant or child exposed, possibly rolling out of bed, or becomin chilled.
An object of the present invention isthe provision of a covering that is comfortable, secure and safe.
Another object of the present invention is the provision of a covering that may be a blanket, sheet or the like.
A still further object of the present invention is the prov sion of a covering provided with a head and face protective means.
A still further object of the present invention is the provision of securing means for the covering and head and face protective means.
A still further object of the present invention is the provision of means for enlarging the opening in the protective means.
A still further object of the present invention is the provision of means for' anchoringand protecting the bottom of a mattress from the springs of a bed or crib.
.A still further object of the present invention i the provision of a bed cover and protective means readily detachable.
A still further object of the present invention is the provision of a bed covering of separable pieces that may easily be laundered.
A still further object of the present invention is the provision of a bed covering that is simple in construction and cheaply manufactured.
Other objects and advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the following description of the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the top portion of the covering, with the protective cover there- Figure 2 is a plan view of the device with the protective head and face cover removed, one corner of the covering being folded back and showing fastening means.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the head and face protector cover, two corners being folded back and showing the fastening means, the flap at the opening being also folded back and illustrating the fastening means.
Figure 4 is a plan view of a mattress and bottom covering means, one end and one side of the cover shown in relatively fixed position, one end 2 and one side being shown flat or in disengaged position.
Figure 5 is an end elevational view of the device.
Figure 6 i a fragmentary enlarged plan view of one corner of the device.
Figure '7 is a fragmentary enlarged plan view of the reversed side of the device and showing the securing means.
Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the above described views to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawing the numeral l0 designates the covering that comprises a bottom cover H, a top cover [2 and a head and face protector l3.
The cover H is disposed between the springs and the bottom H! of a mattress I6. This cover may be of any suitable material such as muslin,
duck or the like. The cover is made in excess of the length and width of a mattress providing flaps I1, and to one face of the cover adjacent the margins are male elements of securing means I8 that may be of the snap fastener type and they may be individually sewed on the cover in spaced relation or be disposed upon a tape l9 and the tape sewed to the cover H.
The top cover I2 is provided with an opening 20 and a slit 2| that communicates with the opening permitting free movement of a babys head and neck. The cover l2 on its top face 22 is provided with a tape 23 having male elements 24 of snap fasteners. The under side of the cover 12 adjacent its side and end edges is provided with a tape 25 that carries the female elements 26 of snap fasteners, and they engage the male elements [8 on the cover II and lock the cover 12 to cover I I.
The head and face protector I3 is made of any suitable material such as cotton-satin, mercerized broadcloth and the material if desired maybe lined with a plastic material (not shown). The protector I3 is provided with a slit opening 21 that terminates into a circular opening 28, and this opening aligns witlropening 20 when the shield is superposed upon cover 12. The slit opening 2'! is provided on one side with the male elements 29 of snap fasteners and it is to be noted that these are arranged in spaced relation and sewed on the protector. The opposite side of the slit opening is provided with a flap 3!], one edge being provided with female elements 3! of snap fasteners adapted to engage the male elements 29. The bottom face 32 of the protector I3 on two sides and one end is provided with a tape carrying female elements 33 of snap fasteners 3 that engage the male elements 24 for securing the protector to the cover l2.
In using the device the cover I! is placed between the spring of a crib or bed and mattress [6, the flaps 17 extending beyond the marginal edges of the mattress. An infant or child is then placed upon the mattress and cover [2 placed on the top face of the mattress and the infants or childs head passed through opening 20, the female elements 26 are then snapped to the male elements is, the fiaps l7 engaging and enclosing the ends and sides of th mattress, the cover 12 being fixedly secured in place. The slit 2i provides room for a baby or child to move its neck and head in comfort. The protective shield I3 is next placed on the cover 2, the head of an infant or child passed through the opening 28, the female elements 33 engaging the male elements 2 1 on the cover V2. The flap se is then closed over the slit 2?, the female elements 3! engaging the male elements 29 to the extreme right side of the slit. At the infant or child grows the flap provides means for increasing the size of the opening by simply engaging the female elements 35 with the male elements at the edge of the slit 2?. This arrangement provides an adjustable opening which is very desirable. When the flaps H of cover H are turned up against the sides of the mattress, the female elements 26 engage the male elements 18, and at each corner a miter is formed due to the corners 38 of the cover I! being of angular configuration. The cover pieces H, l2 and Hi all being fiat makes it very easy to launder them which saves time.
While the invention has been described involving the structure as described, the device is capable of modification as to the details of construction and arrangement Within the scope of the invention herein disclosed and claimed.
What is claimed is:
In combination, a cover for an infants bed comprising a first cover portion interposed between springs and a mattress, snaps on said first cover portion, a second cover portion over the top of a mattress having an opening, snaps on the bottom and top faces of said last named cover portion, said snaps on the bottom face of said last named cover portion in looking engagement With the snaps on the first named cover portion, a protective cover portion having an opening in alignment with the opening in the second named cover portion, said protective cover portion superposed upon the second named cover portion, a flap on said protectivepcover portion having snaps, snaps on the bottom face of said protective cover portion and in engagement with the snaps of the top face of said second cover portion, snaps adjacent the flap of said protective cover portion engagement with the snaps on the flap for locking the neck of an infant in the opening.
