Claims.
The object of this invention is to provide a new and improved form of babys sleeping cover or sleeping bag.
Another object of the invention is to provide a sleeping cover that is adapted to be used in a crib and which will hold the baby in place in the crib without possible injury to the baby.
Another object of the invention is to provide a sleeping cover that is readily applied to both the crib and the baby.
Another object of the invention is to provide a sleeping cover in which the fabric of the bag can be easily removed, and washed, and put back in place on the metal frame which holds it.
Another object of the invention is to provide a sleeping cover with a metal frame made in two parts, which are suitably jointed together to best serve its purpose,
These and other objects of the invention will be illustrated in the drawings, described in the specification, and pointed out in the claims at the end thereof.

In the-drawings reference numeral I indicates an ordinary crib having four sides 2, 2 extending above the mattress a suitable distance, which sides are indicated in dotted lines as shown in Figures 1 and 2.. It will beunderstood that the sides leave the'crib open at the top.
Loosely placed in the crib on the mattress is a metal frame 3, shown in Figure '7, which frame consists of the two parts 4 and 5 suitably hinged together at 6 and 1. The one end of this frame is made preferably of fiat stock as indicated at 4, rectangular in cross section, while the other end of the frame 5 is preferably made of round stock. Both the sections 4 and 5 are U-shaped. The ends of the section '4 are perforated with holes or slots'8 and 9, and the ends of the section -5 are bent to form eyes which engage with these slots and form a hinged joint therewith.
' This frame 3 is long and wide enough to make a loose fit inside the crib with the sides of the crib, so that it will rest on themattress and will not move endwise or sidewise in the crib to any considerable extent.
On this metal frame is placed a fabric covering 10, at one end of which is a wide pocket H which fits over the section 4, and at the other end is a narrow pocket l2 which fits over the lower end of the section 5. On the sides of thefabric covering are placed straps l3, l3, one end of which is fastened to the fabric. The'otherend of each of these straps extends around the bar of which the section .5 is formed. The free end is provided with one part of a snap'fastening, the other part of which is fastened on thefabric or the other endof the strap. This makesit possible to place the cover in place easily by inserting the pockets over the ends of the frame whenthe frame is in the position shown in Figure 2, after which the frame can be placed'in the position shown in Figures 1, 4, 5 and '7, and the straps can be passed around the frame and the ends fastened together by the snap fastening's on the straps,
As indicated in Figures 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 9, the cover is provided with an opening surrounded by a collar in circular'or oval form, which'collar is held against kinking or collapsing, as will be hereinafter described, so that the baby can turn its neck freely therein without danger of the collar binding or collapsing enough to interfere with the babys breathing or comfort otherwise.
The cover is slit as indicated at l6 and is provided with a flap I! which folds over the body of thecover and is fastened thereto by snap fasteners l8 and I8a, as indicated in Figures 3 and 4.

The collar can then be closed and the baby's head is secure- 1y held in place thereby, although the baby is given ample room in which to wriggle, and twist, and turn.

In eachof these tabs there is a buttonhole oran eyelet 2|. .In this buttonhole or eyelet can be engaged a spring snap 21, shown in Figure 5, which' is on. one end of a cable or'safety belt 23.1 On the other 'end of this belt is a similar spring snap.

It will also be understoodlthatwith these safety belts this sleeping cover can be placed on afullsize bed and fastened in place, so'that the frame cannot move on the bed,in which case the safety belt would have tobe somewhat longer than the belt. ordinarily used on the crib. When the elastic strip is sewed to the cover the elastic strip is stretched, and. when'the strip is released the cover is gathered thereby, so to speak, so. that ample slack is provided therein, so that the cover can be raised and accommodate itself to the body of the baby that is placed thereunder. This is shown more especially in Figures 9 and 12. By making the cover injthis way it can be made all in one piece. It will also be understood that the elastic binds the pocket'all around and makes the pocket fit the frame closely and, take hold thereon, so that the pocket or the cover'of which it forms a part cannot be pulled off of the frame by the, baby.

I claim: 1. A sleeping cover for babies comprising a rectangular frame adapted to loosely fit inside a rectangular crib, said frame being made of 3 sections being adapted to be supported by the other section in a raised position, the cover being loosely held on said frame when one of the sections is in raised position and being firmly held on the frame when the sections are in line with each other, an opening for the babys head and neck in said cover adjacent to a line that connects the hinges of the two U-shaped sections.
6. A sleeping cover for babies comprising a rectangular frame adapted to loosely fit inside of V a rectangular crib, said frame being made of two two U-shaped sections hinged together, a fabric cover suitably connected to said frame, said cover having an opening therein located centrally of the long axis of the cover and adjacent to the hinged joints of the frame, through which opening the babys head can be placed, a collar around said opening, a slit in the fabric cover extending down from the collar into the cover.
2. A sleeping cover for babies comprising a rectangular frame adapted to loosely fit inside a rectangular crib, said frame being made of two U-shaped sections hinged together, a fabric cover suitably connected all around to said frame, said cover having an opening therein through which the babys head can be placed, the end of one of said U-shaped sections and cover being adapted to be raised on the other section for the purpose of placing the babys body under cover at that end and placing the babys head through the opening in the cover on top of the cover at the other end.
3. A sleeping cover for babies comprising a rectangular frame adapted to loosely fit inside of a rectangular crib, said frame being made of U-shaped sections of unequal length hinged together, a fabric cover having a pocket at each end thereof adapted to fit over the ends of the frame when one section stands at right angles to the other section, said cover being positively held on the two sections when the sections are in 7 line with each other, an opening in the fabric cover through which the babys head can extend, said opening being in line with the hinges joining the two sections. i

A sleeping cover for babies comprising a rectangular frame adapted to loosely fit inside of a rectangular crib, said frame being made of U- shaped sections of unequal length hinged together, a fabric cover having a pocket at each end thereof adapted to fit over the ends of the frame when one section stands at right angles to the other section, said cover being positively held on the two sections when the sections are in line with each other, an opening in the fabric cover through which the babys head can extend, said opening being in line with the hinges joining the two sections, and means for fastening the sides of the cover to the sides of the frame.
5. A sleeping cover for babies comprising a rectangular frame adapted to loosely fit inside of a rectangular crib, said frame being made of two U-shaped sections hinged together, said sections being of unequal length, said sections normally being in a horizontal position, one of said U-shaped sections hinged together, said sections being of unequal length, a fabric cover having a pocket at each end thereof adapted to fit over the ends of the frame, an elastic binding around the edge of the pocket which makes the pocket take hold on the frame, the cover being loosely held on said frame when one of the sections is in raised position and being firmly held on the frame when the sections are in line with each other, an opening for the babys head and neck in said cover adjacent to a. line that connects the hinges of the two U-shaped sections.
7. A sleeping cover for babies comprising a rectangular frame adapted to loosely fit inside of a rectangular crib, said frame being made of two U-shaped sections hinged together, said sections being of unequal length, a cover attached at its edges all around to said frame, a collar in said cover large enough to permit the passage of a babys head therethrough and means for detachably holding said cover on the frame when one of the sections is held in an upright position, said means positively holding the cover on the frame when the sections are in line with each other.
8. A sleeping cover for babies comprising a rectangular frame adapted to loosely fit inside of a rectangular crib, said frame being made of two U-shaped sections hinged together and being of unequal length, a fabric cover held on said frame, an opening for the babys head and neck in said cover adjacent to a line connecting the hinges that connect the two U-shaped sections.
9. A sleeping cover for babies comprising a rectangular frame adapted to loosely fit inside of a rectangular crib, said frame being made of two U-shaped sections hinged together, a fabric cover having a non-elastic pocket at each end thereof adapted to loosely fit over the ends of the frame, said U-shaped sections being of unequal length, said fabric cover being removable from the sections when they are at right angles to each other and being positively held on the sections when they are in line with each other, an opening for the babys head and neck in said cover adjacent to a line connecting the hinges that connect the two U-shaped sections,
10. A sleeping cover for babies comprising a rectangular frame adapted to loosely fit inside of a rectangular crib, said frame being made of two U-shaped sections hinged together and being of unequal length, a fabric cover held on said frame, an opening for the babys head and neckin said cover adjacent to a line connecting the hinges that connect the two U-shaped sections, pockets at each end of the cover adapted to fit over the ends of the rectangular frame, said pockets being elastic across the frame but being non-elastic lengthwise of the frame so that it cannot be pulled off the frame when the frame is lying fiat.
