BLAME MARTIN DREW, OF BARRE, VERMONT.
CRIB COVER.
Application tiled April 11, 119%. Serial Ito. 555,892.
To all whomrit may comm:
Be it known that I, ELAINE M. Dnnw, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Barre in the county of Washington and State of Vermont, have invented a new and Improved Crib Cover, of which the followin is a full, clear, and exact description.
he present invention relates to new and useful improvements in childrens crib covers.
It is one of the primary objects of the invention to secure the covers for childrens cribs in such a manner that the covers will not be displaced relative to the crib and the occupant thereof upon restless movements of the occu ant.
It is anot or object of the invention to so construct crib covers'that the occupant of the crib is free to turn upon one or the other side without disarrangingthe covers.
It is a further ob'ect of the invention to so construct the cri covers that the occupant of the crib may be removed and replaced in the crib without disturbing the covers.
It is a still further object of the invention to so construct a crib cover that the occupant of the crib will be relieved of the wewi ght thereof.
ith the above and other objects in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawin in whichigure 1 is a plan view of a childs crib showing the manner in which the covers are used in connection therewith;
Fig. 2 is a detail plan view of one portion of the covers;
Fig. 3 is a similar view tion of the covers;
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view of the crib showing the mannerof supporting the covers out of contactwith the occupant of the crib.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference character 5 designates the crib, and said crib is provided with a mattress 6 in any well-known manner.
The cover comprises two sections 7 and 8 material, such, for exalgplef,
of another poras a blanket. Secured to the section the blanket orother heavy cover is a lining sheet 9 of cotton or linen, and secured to the section 8 is a similar lining 10, it being understood that said linings or sheet portions are carried upon the interior of the blanket or heavy cove buttons 17 and said buttons 17 are its more clearly shown in Fig. 2, the sectlon 8 of the heavy cover is provided with a cut-out portion 11, and the lining 10 of said portion 8 is folded outwardly through mid neck opening or cut-out portion 11 to provide-a collar 12 therefor. This section 8 is provided with a plurality of buttonholes or other suitable fastening elements, 13.
The section 7 of the heavy cover is likewise provided with a slightly cut-out portion 15 forming one side of the neck portion 11. Defining this cut-out portion 15 of the section 7 and overlapping said section 7 is a semi-circular flap 16, it being understood that this flap 16 is formed of the same material as the sheet or lining 9 of the section 7, and is secured thereto either by sewing or in any suitable manner. The section 7 is provided with a plurality of adapted to be engaged by the buttonholes of the section 8 to retain the cover in position.
The device functions in the following manner: One side of the device is opened by (llsenga ing the buttons 17 from their,
1 4. Vhen it is desired to remove the child from the crib, it is only necessary toundo one side of they cover, which action permits of a read removal of the child.
It is o VlOllS that any number of heavy cover sections may be laying them over the 8 already in use.
The reference character 25 designates safety pins or the like, and extending through said safety pins is a. cord 26. The ends of this cord 26 are secured by tying as indicated by the reference character 27, to the head and foot sections of the crib.
By the above described construction it is apparent that the cover section 7 may be sup orted out of contact withthe occupant of t e crib, thus relieving said occupant of the weight of the covers.
cover sections 7 and employed by simply By bringing the sheet or lining sections outwardly of the heavy cover sections 7 and 8, at the neck opening, it is apparent that the heavy cover sections are protected l from being soiled by contact with the body of the occupant of the crib.
While in the present instance the means for fastening the sections '1 and 8 together has been described as being buttons and I. buttonholes, it is obvious that other types of fasteners, such as snap fasteners, tapes, or the like, may be employed for this purse, and the invention is not limited, thereore,-to the specific form of fastener shown.
From the foregoing it is apparent that the present invention provides a new and improved form of cover for childrens cribs in which the occupant of the crib is free I to move without disturbing the cover, thus I assuring that the occupant will at all times have the protection thereof. Furthermore, the invention provides for the ready removal and replacement of the occu ant relative to the crib without a distur ance of the covers, and by means of the cord 26, the cover is maintained out of contact with the occupant of the crib.
What is claimedis: i
A cover for cribs compris' two sections, each of which is provi ed with a cut-out portion servin -to form a neck opening when the sections are placed together, means for securing the sections together to form a single cover, and a lining of lighter material foreach of said sections, said linings extending to the outer face of the cover sections and so formed as to overlie the defining edge of the neck opening therein.
