SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 268,225, dated November 28, 1882.

` To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, FRANK F. HARRISON and WILLIAM H. AUGERs'rEIN, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, liaveinventedanew and useful Improvementin Opera-Chairs, of which the following is a specication. A
Our invention relates to an improvement in opera-chairs by attaching below the seat an automatically-folding clothing-receptacle, which will be open `for use when the seat is let down and closed up out of the way when the seatis folded up; and it consists in the devices substant-ially as hereinafter set forth.
Figure l is a front elevation, showing the seat down. Fig. 2 is the same with the seat folded up. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional elevation, showingr a seat down. Fig. 4 is the same with the seat folded up. Fig. 5 is a detailed view.
In out` construction we joint to the under side ofthe rear portion of the seat A a broad piece, B, for the back of the clothing-receptacle. and to the lower edge of this back we joint a shelf or bottom, U, and to the front edge of' the shelf we joint two straps or bars, D, the upper ends of which are joinied to the under side of' the front ofthe seat, thus makingr a receptacle under the seat for coat, hat, rubbers,
3o &c., when the seat is being occupied.
E is a stop secured to the under side of the seat in front of the baci; piece, B, to prevent the. receptacle from moving` too far forward. Then it will he seen that when the receptacle is empty andthe seat folded up the movement folds up the receptacle also. as `shown particularlyin Fig. 4, and the letting,` down of the seat unfolds the receptacle, leaving it open for use. In this way, automatically, by the action of the scar, we provide a very convenient depository for articles of wear not required during an entertainment.
This device is designed for all classes of opera-seats or folding-up seats where it may he applied.
We claim- In au opera-chair, the broad back piece, B. and the straps D, hinged to the lower side of the seat A. and the shelf' C, hinged to the pi: ce B, and the straps D and the stop E, secured to the seat in front oi' the piece B, all insidev and independent of the chair-supports, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
