Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN FRAZEE, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNO R OF ONE-HALF TO HORACE HARRIS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FOLDING STOOL.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 268,214, dated November 28, 1882. Application filed April 4, 1882. (No model.)
T all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BENJAM[N FRAZEE, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Folding Stools, of which the following is a specification.
Myinvention relates to folding stools Wherein 1 construct a stool that may be closed up and carried about easily and be stowed away or shipped and occupy but little space, and yet may be adjusted into a rigid stool that may be used to stand on or for other like purposes; and it consists in the devices substan- Einllj, as hereinafter set forth.
:5 F gure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a front elevation. Fig. 3 shows the stool folded up. V
In my construction I make double crossframes A B, the latter part just fitting inside the former, and they are jointed together by the rod 0. The ends of this rod pass through the frame-pieces B and into .the pieces A, but ordinarily do not go through them. However,
they may pass clear through, and even may have a screw-nut on the outside of the frame; but preferably they will be made as this is shown and described above. The parts ot'the frame are provided with stay-rods D E. To one of the rods D is hung a seat, F, made or- 0 dinarily of wood, about a half-inch thick; but
the seat may be made of some other firm material. To the under side of the seat are secured two metal straps, G, having one end formed with an eye, H, togo over the rod D in the frame part B, allowing the seat to swing 5 on this rod. The opposite end of the strap is formed with a hook, K, fitted to catch onto the rod D on' the frame part A.
To. put the stool in position fora seat, I press the tops of the frames together with the ;0 seat above until the rod passes the hook, and then they are left to spread apart, the straps resting on the rod until the hooks catch onto the rod. and prevent further spreading and make a firmly secured and braced seat stool.
with the eyes H and hooks K, so that when i the stool is folded up the seat will hang be tween the upper ends of the frame-pieces, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
