1 Claim. l
This invention relates to garment dryers, and the main object is the provision of an articulated frame adapted to be formed into substantially the outline of the body of a woolen garment and to be thus maintained, either before or after a newly washed and hence wet garment is mounted on the frame, thus preventing shrinking or misshaping of the garment in the act of drying'.
The above broad as well as additional and more specic objects will be. clariiied in the following description wherein characters of reference refer to like-numbered parts in the accompanying drawing. It is to be noted that the drawing is intended solely for the purpose of illustration and that it is therefore neither desired nor intended to limit the invention necessarily to any or all of the exact details of construction shown or described except insofar as they may be deemed essential to the invention.
Referring briefly to the drawing,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the articulated frame embodying the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a View showing the articulated frame having a Woolen garment such as a sweater mounted thereon.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral lil indicates the drying frame of the present invention, and the same is composed of a plurality of connected links of which at least two, shown at II, are substantially long and positioned at opposite sides of the frame. The ends of the links i I are joined, at one end oi the frame, by interconnected links I3, and at the other end 'of the frame by similar links It.
Of the multiple pivots thus provided in the frame, at least those two between the links I3 and between the links I4, shown respectively at I5 and IB, are provided with locking means, shown in Fig. 2. A screw bolt I? is passed through aligned openings in the links I4 and an internally threaded barrel I8 having a handle I9 extending at right angles therefrom, receives the threaded end of the bolt. By swinging the handle I9 one Way or the other about its pivot, it is apparent 2 that the two abutting ends of the links I4 may be locked together or freed for pivotal movement.
It is to be noted that the links I3 and I4 are of substantially the same length. Thus, the frame may be formed into any of a large variety of outlines. As shown in Fig. 3, the frame is shaped to be inserted into a sweater 20, with the long links II positioned against the sides of the sweater body, portions of the links I3 dening the shoulders of the garment, and the links I4 extending below the lower edge of the sweater. Locking pivots such as shown at I5 might also be applied to the pivots at the extremities of the links II, or to some of them, if desired.
When a wet garment such as a sweater is dried on the frame It), it is apparent that the form of the sweater will be substantially maintained.
Obviously modifications in form or structure may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.
I claim:
A device of the class and for the purpose described comprising an articulated frame composed of six flat links pivotally joined end to end, two of said links having a length substantially greater than that of the remainder of said links and being equal in length and positioned opposite each other thus forming opposite sides of the frame, said remainder of links comprising two pairs of short links, one of said pairs of short links being positioned at each end of the frame, all of said short links having the same length, each of said pairs of short links having means for releasably locking the two mutually pivoted ends thereof together.
