GARMENT HANGER.
Application filed July 28, 1921.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, PALMER l), l VnnKs, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Garment Hanger, of which the following is a description.
My invention relatesto a garment hanger and aims to provide certain new and useful improvements in connection with a device of this character.
It is well understood that any number of garment hangers have been placed upon the market in which the parts were capable of manipulation to permit of the hangers beinp; folded to occupy a minimum of space when not in use. lilowever, most of these hangers have been relatively complicated in construction and have also been incapable of being mainitactured at a nominal figure.
Further detects experienced have been that partimilarly with ladies garmentsyl ew, it any, garment hangers have provided facilities :for the support of shirts when not in use.
ith this in mind my present invention aims to provide a garment hanger which shall be extremely simple in construction and be capable o'l? being manufactured at a nominal figure.
A. further object of this invention is the provision of a device of the character stated in which means will be provided permitting of a, lady"s garment such as a skirt being, su 'iported by the ame and still further objects will appear from the annexed specification taken in connection with the drawinns, which latter present one practical embodiment of the invention, and in which--- Figure 1 illustrates a hanger of my im proved construction and showing the same in use;
Figure 2 shows the position which the parts assume when these parts have been mani nilated to cause the hanger to occupy the minimum oi space; and
lfiiuure 3 is a, plan view of the device as illustrated. in liigure 2.
In these views it will be noted that the reference nrunerals 5 which are pivotally secured one to the other preferably by means of the stem 7 of the hook 8.
With a view of preventing the bars 5 and Specification of Letters Patent.
and 6 indicate bars Patented May 9, 1922.
Serial No. 488,164.
6 from swinging beyond certain limits it will be noted that l utilize a third. bar 9, the ends of which are connected, one to eaca of the bars 5 and (3 by means of links 10.
Thus, as in Figure l the bars 5 and 6 are prevented from swinging to a position beyond that at which they would properly support the shoulder portions of garments, such as coats, vests, etc, and the bar 9 may serve to support trousers.
I-lowever, to provide means which will serve to permit oi? a skirt I1 being supported by this latter bar, it will be noted that bayonet slots 12 are termed in the lower edge 01 this latter bar and at points adjacent the end of the same. liy this construction it is permissible for the user to introduce the loops 13 of the skirt through the constricted portions of each of the slots so that the same may be disposed within the edge portion thereol' at which point this garment will be properly supported.
lit it is now desired to fold the garment hanger this may be accomplished by simply swinging the bars and 6 to a point at which they virtually lie in the same plane as in Figure 2. This is permitted by virtue of the linlrs 10 which form av movable connection between the bar 9 and the bars 5 and (3 and when the latter bars have assumed the position indicated it will be obvious that as in l in'ures and 8 the bar 5) may be swung; to a position at which one oi its side faces lies against the side :taces ot the bars 5 and (5 so as to term an extremely compact article.
Thus, alt the objects in the preamble of the specification are accomplished and it will be turther understood that numerous modifications ot the structure might readily be resorted to without at least departing from the scope of my claim. which is- A hanger of the character described com prising a pair of bars pivotally secured to gether at one end to a suspension hook, said hook being adapted to be collapsible flush to one ide of either of said bars, an eye screw secured to the "tree end of each bar, eye screws secured to the ends oi: said third bar, and links interposed between the eye screw oi? the pivoted bars and the eye screw of the third bar so as to form a triangular frame having its lower member in pendulum with respect to the upper member.
