1 Claim.
This invention relates to a record album or holder.
An object of this invention is to provide an im proved record album or holder which can be made in attractive form out of wood, metal or plastic, and which is so constructed as to thor oughly protect the records against breakage or scratching.
Another object of this invention is to provide a record album or holder which includes superposed casings of circular form with means to lock the casings together and with a center post in each casing upon which the records are adapted to be mounted so that the records will be held against shifting.
A further object of this invention is to provide a sectional album or holder which is so constructed and arranged that additional sections may be added from time to time.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawings and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a record album or holder constructed according to an embodiment of this invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a detailed side elevation partly broken away of the device.
Figure 4 is a top plan view of one of the sections.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 6-5 of Figure 5.
Referring to the drawings, the numerals l0, H and i2 designate generally a lower or base section, an intermediate section, and a top or cover section, respectively, constructed according to an embodiment of this invention. The sections 10, II and I2 are disposed in superposed relation, and the lower and intermediate sections I0 and II are of similar construction, and the details of construction of one of these sections applies equally as well to the other sections.
The lower or base section II) is formed of a cylindrical side wall I3 and a top wall It. The top wall I4 is formed with a circular rabbet I5, and the side wall I6 of intermediate section I I is adapted to telescope over the rabbet I5. The two sections I0 and I I are adapted to be locked together by means of a bayonet slot I! which is formed in the rabbet I5 of top wall [4 and the lower portion of side wall It is provided with an inwardly projecting locking pin I8 adapted to engage in the bayonet slot II.
As shown in Figure 2, the side wall I3 of lower section It is also provided with inwardly projecting pins or looking members I80. which are adapted to engage in a bayonet slot of another section where it is desired to add additional sections to the holder or album.
The top wall I4 is provided centrally thereof with an upstanding post It, which is of a size to engage in the central hole 20 of phonograph records 2|. The post It is formed with a central bore or socket 22, and top wall I4 is formed with an opening 23 aligning with socket 22 so that the upwardly projecting pin or stud 24, which extends from the upper end of post I9, may engage in a socket of an upper section.
The cover or top member I2 is formed of a cylindrical side wall 25 with a top wall 26, and a knob 21 is secured centrally of the top wall 26. The knob 2'! is formed with a central bore or socket 28 within which the stud or positioning member of a lower post is adapted to removably engage. The side wall 25 of cover member I2 is provided with diametrically opposed locking pins 29 which are adapted to removably engage in the bayonet slots formed in the top wall 3|] of the intermediate section I I.
The several sections herein disclosed are adapted to be made out of wood, plastic, metal or other suitable material, and the side walls of each section are of sufficient depth so that a relatively large number of records may be disposed on the posts I9 of each section. The posts I9 provide a means whereby the superposed records which are mounted on the posts will be held against lateral movement so that the records will not become scratched and will not be permitted to shift laterally within the holder section.
It will be understood that there may be as many sections making up the holder as may be desired, and each section below the top will be formed identical with the sections herein disclosed.
In the use of this holder or album, when it is desired to remove any record or records, the desired holder section is removed so as to expose the records which are mounted on the post of the lower section. In other words, if it is desired to use any record or records mounted on the post I9 of the intermediate section I I, this section is removed by partially turning the section so as to unlock the side walls I6 from pin I8 carried by lower top Wall M.
The records carried by the upper side of top wall 30 of intermediate section H may be removed by partially turning cover 12 and lifting the same oif the top wall 30. The several sections are herein disclosed as being of circular form, but it will be understood that these holder sections may be formed with fiat sides if desired.
I do not mean to confine myself to the exact details of construction herein disclosed, but claim all variations falling within the purview of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A record album comprising a plurality of superposed casings, each casing being formed of a side Wall, and a top wall, said top wall having a marginal rabbet whereby the side Wall of a succeeding casing may partially telescope over said top wall, means comprising a bayonet slot in the top wall and an inwardly extending pin carried by the side Wall for releasably locking adjacent casings together, an upstanding post carried by the center of each top wall upon which records are adapted to be mounted, each top wall having a. central opening on the underside thereof, an upwardly extending positioning stud References Cited in the file of this patent UNITED STATES PATENTS Number Name Date 491,865 Wynn Feb. 14, 1893 769,615 Kosansvich Sept. 6, 1904 1,010,582 Caley Dec. 5, 1911 1,916,755 Dowdell July 4, 1933 2,514,573 Harrison July 11, 1950 FOREIGN PATENTS Number Country Date 20,557 Great Britain 1903 177,309 Great Britain Mar. 30, 1922 441,443 Germany Mar. 3, 1927 482,667 Great Britain Apr. 4, 1938
