Dixson, Jr. Attorney-Harold E. Cole ABSTRACT A band-saw carrier and dispenser has a bottom plate and a cover plate which has posts that extend through holes in the bottom plate. Retaining means retain the posts in said holes, which is accomplished by distorting portions of the posts, as by heat, to extend them to the bottom plate and thereby retain both plates together.
10 Claims, 6 Drawing Figures PATENTEDJUH 6 mm BAND-SAW CARRIER AND DISPENSER The principal object of my invention is to provide a compact construction whereby a person, by a simple operation can permanently fasten a cover plate and bottom plate together, utilizing part of the cover to accomplish this.
The foregoing and other objects which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a construction, combination and arrangement of parts such as is disclosed by the drawings. The nature of the invention is such as to render it susceptible to various changes and modifications, and therefore, I am not to be limited to the construction disclosed by the drawings nor to the particular parts described in the specification; but am entitled to all such changes therefrom as fall within the scope of my invention.
In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is an exploded view showing the parts of my carrier and dispenser unassembled, including a band-saw.
FIG. 2 is a bottom plan view of my invention complete.
FIG. 3 is an enlarged, sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of FIG. 2.
FIG. 4 is a top plan view thereof complete.
FIG. 5 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of FIG. 4.
FIG. 6 is a fragmentary view showing a post on a cover plate extending through a hole in a bottom plate, portions of the post being shown distorted and adhering to the bottom plate.
As illustrated, my band-saw and dispenser has a bottom or supporting plate 10 shown preferably of rectangular shape. It has a countersunk, cenn-al hole 12 therethrough. Also, there are four holes 16 adjacent the comers thereof each having a countersunk portion 18 later referred to. An elongate slot 24 extends from the outer edge of said bottom plate 10 towards said hole 12, through which an end portion of a band-saw S is visible.
As shown, at the side extremities of said bottom plate 10 eight recesses or indentations 26 are preferably provided that extend inwardly, later referred to.
An upper plate or cover 28 has a relatively large central hole 30, later described. At each of the four comer portions are hollow posts 32 that extend from the inner surface downwardly and there are four holes 34 through said top plate 28 that communicate with the holes in said posts 32. The latter extend through said holes 22 and beyond.
Retaining means may take the form of distorted portions 36 of said posts 32, which latter may be distorted when a portion is melted by heat to cause the material, such as plastic, to run between said posts and said bottom plate 10 and into said countersunk hole 18. Thus vertical slots 37 may be left where the material was removed by melting.
Said cover plate 28 and said bottom plate 10 may be retained by a hollow ring or washer, not shown, or other wellknown retaining means, that fits over a said post 32, and that may enter said countersunk hole portion 18.
Said cover or top plate 28 is bounded by an angularly and downwardly extending side 40, within which boundary said bottom plate 10 fits. It has a cut-out 41 communicating with said slot 24 in position of use.
Said side 40 preferably has inwardly projecting portions 42, there being eight, as shown, so positioned as to enter said eight recesses 26 in said bottom plate 10. Thus said plates 10 and 28 are connected or interlocked to some extent.
A rotatable spool 46 is rotatably mounted between said plates 10 and 28. It has a circumferential portion 48 having a depending side 50. Extending inwardly from the periphery of said portion 48 is a slot 52 which is opposite said bottom plate elongate slot 24 to receive the end of a band-saw S. Said spool 46 has a raised or protruding portion 54 radially inward of the outer periphery thereof, whereby said circumferential portion 48 outside of said protruding portion 54 provides a flat rim or ledge 55 upon which the portion of said cover plate 28, that is contiguous to said central hole 30, rests. Thus said cover plate 28 and said spool 46 provide a flat, even outer surface when the plates are assembled.
Said spool portion 54 has four finger holes 56 therethrough which are bounded by peripheral rims 58 that extend downwardly in position of use, parallel with said side 50. Said spool 46 is easily rotated by inserting one's finger or fingers in one or more holes. Extending from the under surface of said raised portion 54 downwardly is a centering post 60 for said spool that extends through said central hole 12.
Said plates 10 and 28, and said spool 46, may be made of an inexpensive plastic, or other suitable material.
