3 Claims. (01. 223106) This invention relates to a sewing kit.
An object of the invention is the production of a handy, compact and efiicient container or kit for holding all necessary sewing supplies.
Another object of the invention is the construetion of a sewing kit with compartments, and the mounting above said compartments of a revolvable tray for holding articles, preferably spools.
A still further object of the invention is the construction of an efficient sewing kit in which are preferably two partition plates, arranged in a crossed position, and a central post engaging said plates and provided with means for holding the plates in a fixed position, whereby the compartments formed by said plates are maintained uniformly at all times.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements 01' parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed. out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a sewing kit constructed in accordance with this invention, while Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3, Fig. 2, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line 44, Fig. 2, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 5 is a sectional View taken on line 55, Fig. 2, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the parts or units of the sewing kit, shown in a separated position.
Referring to the drawings, in which I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, I designates the cylinder-like bottom section, and 2 is the cylinder-liketop or cover section. A partition device 3 is placed in the bottom section i; this partition device comprises a lower plate 4 and an upper plate 5. The term plate is used in broad sense, meaning any suitabie device which conforms to the scope of this invention. The lower plate 4 is provided with a slot 6 and the upper plate 5 is provided with a slot 1. When the two plates are in their assembled position, the slots 5 and 1 will be registering, forming a crossed structure which produces the four compartments 8 of the sewing kit.
A central post 9 is provided, this post having a grip knob It} on its upper end, and has four slots II in its lower end. These slots ll produce four spacing sections I2 on the lower end of the 2 post 9. The post extends at its upper end through the largeaperture iii in the top of cover'section 2, and the slotted lower end of said post is placed upon the partition device 3; when so placed, the
' sections l2 of the post arein the compartments 8 of the Thereforeeach section l2 engages two faces of two plates 4 and 5,'as will be clearly seen upon referring to Figures land 5. Therefore, these sections I2 of post 9 act as efficient spacing means, whereby the plates 4 and 5 are kept in a fixed, spaced position, resulting in the compartments 8 being maintained uniformly at all times.
A rotatable tray It is provided, which comprises a bottom provided with a ring portion 15; this ring portion extends around post 9. The tray I4 is provided with an upstanding side l6, which terminates, at its ends in two flanges l1 extending radiall from the center of said tray, for the purpose hereinafter described. The tray it normally rests upon the top of the plates 4 and 5 of the partition device 3.
If desired, the lower end of post 9 can be fixedly secured to the bottom section I, by any suitable means, such as nailing or gluing, or the like.
When the kit is in use, large spools may be placed in the compartments 8, and preferably small spools are placed in tray M. The inwardly extending flanges IT keep the spools from falling out of the tray, for when the tray is in use, the post 9 substantially closes the space between the inner ends of flanges l1, whereby spools cannot fall out of the tray.
When the tray I4 is revolved so as to place the flanges l1 directly over the plates 4 and 5, then one of the compartments 8 is placed in full view, with a clearance above the compartment wherein a pair of scissors may be placed in a vertical position against the post 9, and cushions for needles and pins may be hung or otherwise secured to the continguous faces of the plates, to be readily accessible to the person using the kit.
When a person is using the kit and is sitting in a chair, it may be desirable to remove the cover section 2, placing it beside the operator, and then mount the bottom section I upon the top of the cover section, whereby the working part of the kit, with the spools, etc., will be in suitable position for use by the operator.
When the cover section 2 is in position on the bottom section I, a very compact device is produced, which is easy to carry and which is readily accessible at all times.
Another function for the peculiar post. 9 is the clamping action that the slotted lower end While I have described the preferred embodi-- ment of my invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same, and
I, therefore, reserve the right to make such changes or alterations as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a sewing kit, the combination of a bottom section, a partition device in said bottom section, a post on said partition device, a revolvable tray on said post and resting against said partition device, said revolvable tray comprising a bottom and a side, said side provided with two inturned 4 flanges extending radially from the center of said tray, said bottom provided with a ring portion between the inner ends of said flanges, and a cover section on said post and resting upon said bottom section.
2. In a sewing kit, the combination of a bottom section, a partition device in said bottom section, said partition device comprising plates positioned at right angles to each other, and being in a crossed position in said bottom section, a post provided in its lower end with slots, producing spacing sections upon said post, said plates of the partition device extending into said slots of the post, with the spacing sections between the side faces of said plates, whereby the plates are spaced evenly, and a cover section around said post and resting upon the bottom section.
3. In a sewing kit, the combination of a bottom section, a partition device in said bottom section, a post on said partition device, a revolvable tray on said post and against said partition device, said tray including an upstanding side, said side being provided with inturned flanges on its ends terminating near said post, and said post closing the side of said tray, whereby spools in said tray can not, fall out between said inturned flanges.
