' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALAusoN WOOLSEY, or ADRIAN, MICHIGAN.
ROAD-SCRAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 267,815, dated. November 21, 1.882.
' Application filed July5,1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALANSON WooLsEY, of Adrian, in the county of Lenawee and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Road-Scrapers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of this invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the construction of road-scrapers; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts, all as more fully hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved scraper. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on the line L L, Fig. 1.
In the accompanying drawings is represented an ordinary wagon, which is provided with the bed E, which rests and is secured in any proper manner upon'the bolsters of the wagon.
A represents the scraper, which is provided with the vertical posts 0 D, which project up through the bed, and it is also provided with any proper shoe, S, upon its front lower edge.
2' 1" represent draft-chains, one end of each of which is secured to the head of the scraper A, while the opposite or'forward ends are secured to a V-shaped clev'is, 70, which engages with the king-bolt Z.
B represents a spreader-bar, the outer end of which is provided with a c1evis,j, through which the chain i passes, while the opposite end passes through the head of the scraper A,
levers, h, for raising and lowering the scraper,
as the work to be performed shall require, or so that the scraper will entirely clear the road.
While I show and describe a Windlass for raising the scraper, I do not wish to be confined to such construction, as there are various ways for producing the desired result which could be employed without departing from the spirit of my invention.
By this construction and arrangement ofparts I produce a scraper which can readily be attached to a common wagon and advau tageously be employed in working roads.
What I claim as my invention is- A road-scraper consisting of the scraper A, spreader-bar B, posts 0 D, chains i i, and chainsf, in combination with a wagon provided with proper means for raising and lowering the scraper, substantially as and for the poses set forth.
ALANSON WooLsEY.
