DRAFT-EQUALIZER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 358,741, dated March 1, 1887.

Be it known that I, Lnwrs HENRY JAooBY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Goshen, in the county of Elkhart and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Draft-Equalizers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of my invention, and is a top view of the same. Fig. 2 is a front view with chains removed. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section.

Myinvention relates to draft-equalizers; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.

Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, G designates a double-tree, which is provided with a straight portion, 1 intermediate 0f the forwardly-projecting inclined portions I J. The double-tree is provided with holes H for adapting it to be connected with the clevis, and on each side of the holes H the double-tree is bored through laterally along the inclines KK. At the front and rear ends of the inclined bores K K are pulleysB F and O E, and at the ends of the double-tree are the pulleys A and D.

Chains L M are passed over pulleys A D, thence along the rear edge of the double-tree, over pulleys O E, then forward through the inclined bores K K, and over the pulleys B F at the front of the double-tree. The chains L M are provided at their front ends with hooks S, which are attached directly to the traces of the harness, no single-trees being used in this connection.

I am aware that it is not new to provide a double-tree with end pulleys and a double middle pulley and pass two chains over them. Further, it is not new to provide a double-tree with four pulleys along its front edge and pass LEIVIS HENRY JAO'OBY.
