TINTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FERDINAND KERSTEN, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
COMBINED STAND FOR COAL-BOXES AND FIRE-IRONS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 267,694, dated November 21, 1882.
Application filed November 12, 1881. (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FERDINAND KERs'r'EN, of the city of Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Stands for Goal-Boxes andFire-Irons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in the ordinary device used for supporting fireirons, consisting of a bottom rest, an upright standard, and a curved arm projecting laterally from said standard 5 and the object of the invention is to combine with such device a stand or rest for supporting an ordinary coal box or hod, thereby producing a very desirable and complete article.
The invention consists in the combination of the several parts forming my combined stand I for coal-box ahd fire-irons, as will be hereinaftherewith, and upwardlyprojecting lugs or ears a, which serve to retain the coal-box B in its proper position upon the stand. The front legs, a are preferably ornamented, and are cast separate from the stand, and are secured thereto by rivets or otherwise.
a is a projection extending laterally from the rear of the stand A,and to which the lower end of the upright standard O is secured. The standard 0 provided with curved arms d at its upper end, which support the upper ends of the fire-irons. I
F is the bottom rest or support for the fireirons, which may be of any suitable design, the outer edge of which is preferably raised above the main portion, so as to form a projectin g rim or flange for better holding the fireirons placed thereon. The support F is made to fit snugly against the rear side of the stand A, and is secured thereto by project-ions f, which fit in dovetail grooves 9, formed on the under side of the stand A, and which support the front end of the rest F, the rear end thereof being supported by a leg, f.
Ifdesired, the stand A and support F maybe made inone piece; but I prefer making them separate and securing them together, as described, for convenience in transportation.
When required to be packed for transportation, the several parts can be easily detached, and the parts can readily be attached and put in place when required for use.
Any ordinary coal-box may be used in con-- nection with my stand, and the coal-box is readily removed from the stand when required to be tilled with coal, thereby avoiding the necessity of employing a separate removable hod within the coal-box.
My-improved stand forms a complete and very desirable and convenient article of furniture, and can be produced at a very small expense. 4
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. As a new article of manufacture, a combined stand for coal-boxes and fire-irons, composed of a stand, A, adapted to support a removable coal-box, an upright standard, 0, independent or separate from the coal-box, and provided with curved arms d, and the bottom rest, F, adapted to receive and hold the fireirons, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with the stand A, carrying the fire-iron standard 0, and provided with sockets g, of theremova-ble bottom rest, F, having projections f entering the grooves g, substantially as set forth.
FERDINAND KERSTEN.
