This form, for example, may consist of normal metal or wood type letters e and support 2l for embossed printing characters 22, all of which are placed with the chase on the type bed I4, and then covered by v a foil 23 which also covers the'groove I2. By applying a slight positive pressure through III-I I to the space 24 located between the center bar I and the packing strip 8, the packing strip is forced against the type bed I4 and thereby seals off the chase against the type bed to make it air tight. The space enclosed by the type bed- Id the chase I--3 and the foil 23, thus sealed, is then subjected to negative pressure or vacuum by connection I8, or connection 20, so that the foil 23, held by the edges of the grooves I2, conf pletely from the type bed I4, or other support. The foil 23, for instance, a rubber cloth, can then v be removed, and the chase I-3 can also be lifted in known manner from the type bed I4.
For the purpose of withdrawing air from the space enclosed by ther chase I-3, it is possible to employ the same suction pump as is provided on these printing presses for the sheet delivery means, i
I claim:
1. In a printing press for use with an elastic foil, a type bed, a chase on the type bed, a printing character support surrounded by said chase in spaced relation to the inner side of the chase, said chase comprising a central frame bar having an upwardly opening groove on its upper face and a bore for connecting said groove with the space between the inner side of the chase and the printing character support, supporting side bars projecting below said frame -bar to provide a space between the chase vand the type bed, -a exible packing member in said space, a pres- -sure connection on the chase communicating with the inner side of the packing member to expand the same into contact with the type bed.

In a printing press for the printing of a form releasably covered with an elastic foil, a type bed mounted in said press, a printing form mounted on said type bed', printing characters mounted on said form, a chase mounted on said type bed and around said printing form having the printing characters mounted thereon, means for locking said printing form in said chase, said means being positioned between the form and the chase, an elastic foil covering both said printing form having the printing characters thereon and said chase, positive pressure means for sealing the chase against the type bed, said means being operatively connected to said chase, and negative pressure means for the air-tight sealing of said elastic foil against said chase and said printing form, said means being operatively connected to said type bed and said chase.

In a printing press for the printing of a form 7 releasably covered with an elastic foil, a type bed mounted in said press, a printing form mounted on said type bed, printing characters mounted on said form, a chase mounted on said type bed and laterally spaced around said printing form. said chase having on its upper side a surrounding groove, said chase and said printing form having a space therebetween,v means for locking said printing form in said chase, said means being positioned in said space between said printing form and said chase, an elastic foil covering both said printing form having the printing characters thereon and said chase including said surrounding groove, positive pressure means for sealing the chase against the type bed, said means being operatively connected to said chase and including a packing strip on the underside of said chase and adjacent said type bed, and negative pressure means for the air-tight sealing of said elastic foil against said chase and said printing form, said means including means for operatively connect- .said chase with the said space between the chase and printing form, said negative pressure means being operatively connected to said type bed and said chase.
5. In a printing press for the printing of a form releasably covered with an elastic foil, a type bed mounted in said press, a printing form mounted on said type bed, printing characters mounted on said form, a chase mounted on said type bed and around said printing form, said chase having a recess on its underside opposite said type bed, a packing strip clamped in said recess forming a. space between it and said chase, means for locking said printing form in said chase, said means being positioned between the form and the chase, an elastic foil covering both said printing form having the printing characters thereon and said chase, positive pressure means for sealing the chase against the type bed, said means being operatively connected to said chase at the space between it and said packing strip, and negative pressure means for the air-tight sealing of said elastic foil against said chase and said printing form, said means being operatively connected to said type bed and said chase.

In a printing press for the printing of a form releasably covered with an elastic foil, a type bed mounted in said press, a printing form mounted and means in the type bed comprising a nipple 75 on said type bed, printingv characters mounted on said form, a chase mounted on said type bed and around said printing form having the printing characters mounted thereon. said chase including a frame bar and supporting bars at each side of said frame bar, said supporting bars projecting |be1ow the frame bar thus forming a recess, a packing strip clamped between the said supporting bars at a distance from said chase and adjacent said., type bed, means for locking said printing form in said chase, said means being positioned between the form and the chase, an elastic foil covering both said printing form having the printing characters thereon and said chase, positive pressure means for sealing the chase against the type bed, said means being operatively connected to said chase, and negative pressure means for the air-tight sealing of said elastic foil against said chase and said printing form, said means being operatively connected to said type lbed and said chase.

In a printing press for the printing of a form releasably covered with an elastic foil, a type bed mounted in said press, a printing form mounted on said type bed, printing characters mounted on said form, a chase mounted on said type bed and around said printing form, said chase and said printing form having a space therebetween, means for locking said printing form in said chase, said means being positioned in said space between said printing form and said chase, an elastic foil covering both said printing form having the printing characters thereon and said chase, positive pressure means for sealing the chase against the type bed, said means :being operatively connected to said chase, and negative pressure means for the air-tight sealing of said elastic foil against said chase and said printing form, said means including a'suction means connected to the said space between the chase and the printing form, said space being operatively connected to said chase at the surface covered by said elastic foil and to the type bed at its surface adjacent. to the chase. f"

In a printing press for the printing of a form releasably covered with an elastic foil, a type bed mounted in said press, a printing form mounted on said type bed, printing characters mounted on said form, a chase mounted on said type bed and around said printing form, means for locking said printing form in said chase, said means being positioned between the form and the chase. an elastic foil covering both said printing form having the printing characters thereon and said chase, positive pressure means for sealing the chase against the type bed, said means being operatively connected to said chase, and negative pressure means for the air-tight sealing of said elastic foil against said chase and said printing form, said means being operatively connected to said type bed and said chase and including a suction pipe passing through said chase.
9. The apparatus of cla-im 8 including a sheet feeding and delivery means for said printing press and a suction pump connected to said suction pipe, for said sheet feeding and delivery means.
