1298087 Pressing machines R BETTARINI and G PACINI 9 Jan 1970 [11 Jan 1969] 1110/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division D1] A pressing machine for fabrics comprises a fixed surface 3, means for heating the fixed surface, an impermeable and deformable diaphragm member, e.g. of silicone rubber, forming a pressing surface arranged to co-operate with the fixed surface, the diaphragm member defining at least in part a sealed chamber, means for moving the diaphragm member towards and away from the fixed surface, two carriages supported on guideways for interposing fabric to be pressed into the space between the surfaces, means for inflating the diaphragm member to perform a pressing operation when the two surfaces are closely spaced from one another and control means for rendering the moving means inoperative if the carriages are incorrectly positioned. The diaphragm member may be secured peripherally to a movable rigid structure 13 having a conduit communicating with a supply of compressed air to cause inflation of the diaphragm member. A flexible sheet which is permeable and a thermal insulator, e.g. of felt, may be arranged on the diaphragm member. The means for moving the diaphragm member may comprise a plurality of toggle linkages. Frame 43 which moves on an upper bar with the aid of rollers and frame 143 which moves similarly on lower bars each carry a fabric piece on which are arranged the fabrics to be pressed, and a small frame carrying a sheet of polytetrafluoroethylene which prevents adhesion of the fabrics to be pressed against the heated surface 3, permit switches 50A and 50B allow press operation to take place only when one of the frames 43 or 143 actuates one of the switches 50A and is located to allow replacement of the treated fabrics and when the other of the frames 43 or 143 actuates one of the switches 50B in the pressing position.
