Description
,UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
L. R. DREYSEL, 0F ST. LOUIS, MISSODRI, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELE AND JAMES E. BLYTHE, OF SAME PLAGE.
RULING-MACHINE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 26,732, dated January 3, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, L. R. DREYSEL, of the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ruling-Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had .to the annexed drawing, making part of this specification, in which-- Figure l is a top view and Fig. 2 a transverse section through my said invention at A A.
My invention consists in the application of an additional' pen holder to a ruling machine, and in a certain combination and arrangement of the said pen holder whereby the machine is made more eflicient.
To enable others skilled in the arts to which my invention appertains to make and use the same I will proceed to describe the construction and operation thereof.
Similar letters of reference represent corresponding parts of the different figures of the drawing annexed.
Upon the drawing A represents the ordinary beam to which the common pen holder B is fixed by means of a tongue and groove as shown, and c represents the connnon pen applied to the holder B.
Now my invention consists in applying the holder D to the holder B as shown by means of an adjustable connection, represented by the two links a and b which are attached to each other by means of a working j oint,4 and which are also attached to the beam A, and holder D, by means of workinw joints as shown.
II is an ordinary pen fixed in the holder D in the usual manner, by means of set screws f.
It will be seen that by the above described arrangementof holders the pen H can be brought forward to the red lin'e w or shoved back to the line t or 1", thus changing its relation with the pen fu, without changing its position in the holder and it will also be seen that the ink cloth can be applied to the respective pens without coming in contact with each other, so that the colors are prevented from mixing, which cannot be done so well upon any other machine with which I am acquainted.
That I claim therefore as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The application of the pen holder D to the pen holder B substantially in the manner described for the purpose specified.
L. R. DREYSEL.

Monrrz RISSMANN.
