The present device is operated in the following manner:
The work piece [5, by example a blade of a pinking shear, is clamped to the work holder is by means of a clamping device (not shown), the Work piece i5 thereby oscillating at a predetermined angle without performing a complete revolution.
The tool is mounted. on the support 4. The spindle 3 is at first advanced by means of the pawl l which engages the teeth of the spindle 3 and in particular beyond the next following working position of the support The stop bolt E5 is, thereby, lifted from the previously engaged stop ill. llow the finger it operates the control shaft 3 and also the turret head 9 to the extent until the next stop is in position opposite the stop bolt d. Then the pawl l returns to its previous position. The spindle 3 is also withdrawn by means of the spring i5, until the stop bolt 6 engages the front face of the next stop Hi.
The impact is taken up by the boss l9 which is secured. to the frame I.
The tool 34, preferably a cutting steel, is advanced towards the work piece it so that the tool cuts a particle from the work piece l5 during the oscillating rotary movement of the latter. Now the feeding device is put into operation. The cutting steel is moved by predetermined increments substantially parallel to the work piece l5 and particularly in the forward movement from the outer end to the center of the work piece blade and in the return movement from the center of the blade to its outer end, the tool 34 being fed axially toward the work piece is, which is carried by the work holder it, upon completion of each forward and return movement of the tool 34 in sideward direction. The forward and return movement of the tool B l with its support is repeated as many times as required to achieve the desired distance and width of the grooves to be formed in the work piece [5.
The tool 34 is disposed parallel to the axis of the work piece blade l5, so that the grooves cut by the tool so are concentrically disposed to the pivotal axis of the work piece blade iii. In order to achieve this end, the work piece blade [5 is mounted on the work holder l5 in such manner that the axis of the pivot Jill coincides with the axis of the pinking shear pin (not shown). By this arrangement it is achieved that the grooves of the blade are disposed concentrically to the pivotal axis of the blade. The grooves formed in the same manner in a counter blade may thereby move through the grooves formed in the first blade during a shearing movement of both blades without any clamping of the latter.
As disclosed above, the movement of the spindle 3 carrying a support is brought about by means of the pawl l, the stroke of the latter conforming to the pitch of the teeth iii. The stop bolt 6 is thereby lifted further from the stops it than the length of the cutting stroke of the tool 34. Thereby, the head 5 performs a return movement by operation of the spring It to abut the next stop it which in the meantime has been brought into position opposite the stop bolt 6. This eifect is of essence in order to achieve continuously precise positions of the tool 34.
The tool s4 is fed axially toward the work piece It by hand, in conventional manner, and is also adjusted by hand. A rack 38 is disposed for this purpose in the support 4 and a meshing gear 31 is mounted in the upper portion 4' of the support 4, a dove-tail guide permitting movement of the upper portion 4 relative to the support 4 in axial direction of the tool 34, the latter being secured to the upper portion 4' of the support 4. The gear 31 may be operated by a hand wheel 35 disposed on one side of the support 4.
It is of course also possible to clamp the workpiece in the support 4 and the tool in the carrier l5 for the work piece. It is further obvious to provide the present device to existing machines, as lathes, shaping machines, or the like.
The present device lends itself particularly for such cases where adjacent grooves are formed on a work piece which grooves must exactly be spaced from each other. The distances are exclusively determined by the stops l i which are disposed on the turret head 9. The stops I0 may be easily formed to exact length and since no wear is experienced on the bolts a very accurate work is achieved even after a long time of their use.
While I have described one embodiment of the present invention, it is to be understood that this embodiment has been given by example only and not in a limiting sense, the scope of the present invention being determined by the objects and the claims.
I claim:
1. A setting device for the accurate setting of a tool support in relation to a work support to provide movement of one of said supports by predetermined increment for forming spaced grooves, comprising a frame, a spindle displaceably guided in the said frame, one of the said supports mounted on the said spindle, a stop head disposed on the free end of the said spindle, a rotatable plate mounted in the said frame opposite the said stop head, a plurality of end stop of differing length secured to the said rotatable plate, so that each of the said end stops may be axially aligned with the said stop head upon rotation of the said rotatable plate, a boss rigidly mounted on the said frame and disposed opposite to and in axial alignment with the said stop head and with one of the said end stops of the rotatable plate, the said boss being adapted to support the said rotatable plate with its end stop in operative position against end thrust, means for intermittent rotation of the said rotating plate to put successively into operative position each of the said end stops, means for intermittently lifting the said stop head from the corresponding end stop of the said rotatable plate, and resilient means for returning the said stop head for engagement with the next of the said end stops upon rotating the said rotatable plate during the lifting interval of the said stop head.
2. The device, as set forth in claim 1, in which the said spindle has teeth in its rear and includes a cam-operated pawl engaging the said teeth and thereby bringing about the axial movement of the said spindle to perform the cutting strokes.
3. The device, as set forth in claim 1, in which the end stops of differing length are disposed on the said rotatable plate in circular arrangement.
