Application June 25, 1951, Serial No. .233,479
f i (ci. :n2- 206) 2 Claims. 1
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in hangers or` holders for tooth brushes and the principal object of my invention is, to provide a simple, inexpensive and eicient device which will function to maintain the contained tooth brush in sanitary condition.
A further object of the invention is, to provide a tooth brush holder having a body, perforated to receive the handle oi the tooth brush and also provided with a depending leg whereby said body may be detachablysuspended from the tooth brush suspension xture or hanger of china, usually found in bath rooms, and, further to provide said body with an upstanding pin or post which provides means for holding the tooth brush cap or cover in position over the bristle end of the brush and also for holding said cap when same is removed, to permit the removal of the brush from said body.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts hereinater more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a vertical section taken through the center of a tooth brush holder of my improved construction,
Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a detail vertical section showing a modied form of the joint between the lower tooth brush handle cover tube, and the body of the device,
Fig. 5 is a detail vertical section showing a modiiied form of the joint between the cover and the body I0.
Fig. 6 is an elevational View of an arrangement embodying my invention, for suspending a plurality of the tooth brush holders.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing which illustrates a preferred embodiment of my invention, I I] designates a block molded from plastics or the like material, which forms the body of the holder, said block being formed with a marginal upstanding ange II and at the rear, a pin or post I2 projects upwardly to provide a point of attachment for the cover I3 which rests on the body I IJ, inside the flange I I while in bristle head covering position.
When cover I3 is removed from body I Il to permit removal of the tooth brush, said cover may be positioned on the pin or post I2, as shown by integral with cover on its rear face are vertically disposed parallel flanges I4, Ythus providing a channel I 5, which receives post I2 when'said cover is positioned on the body I0. Cover I3 may be perforated as designated by I6, to provide air circulation openings. f
Depending from the rear side ofbody I0 preferably in alinement with pin or post I2, isa leg I1, l
which is passed downwardlythrough 'an opening in the standard xture I 8 generally found in bath rooms for the suspension of tooth brushes. Body III is provided in its forward portion with an aperture I9 of suiicient size to receive the handle of an ordinary tooth brush B and formed integral with or fixed to said body I and surrounding said aperture is a depending brush handle covering tube 20, the lower end of Which is preferably open.
In Fig. 4, I have shown a modied form of the connection between the brush handle covering tube 2G and the body I0, such connection comprisingan internal rib 2| on the tube which slips over an external rib 22 formed on an integral ange which depends from the bottom of body Iii around the opening I9 therein.
To permit this form of connection to be used, tube 2o is split lengthwise for a short distance through and beyond rib 2I.
In Fig. 5, the body I Il is provided on its top with an upward extension 23, which enters the lower end of cover I3 when the latter is placed on said body and which structure is the reverse of the structure shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
In Fig. 6, I have illustrated a multiple arrangement of the tooth brush covers and in this arrangement, base or body lil, is elongated to take care of the added brushes and the covers I 3 therefor may be marked I-Iis, I-Iers, Jr. etc.
In the use of my improved tooth brush hanger, the brush, when properly positioned in the holder is .shown in Figs. 1 and 2, with the cap I3 positioned on body I Il. and With the ilanges I4 in engagement with post I2. To remove the brush, cap I3 is drawn upward from body IIl and moved rearward and placed on post I2 as shown by dotted lines, Fig. 1, and the brush is now drawn upward from the body IIl and lower tube 20.
After using the brush, it is restored to its position in body I Il and a, reversal of the movements of the parts just described Will restore the brush to its protected position in the holder.
An important feature of my improved brush holder, is the body l0, With upstanding pin I2 for receiving cap I3 both in on and off" positions, also the depending nger I8, for with such construction, said holder may be readily applied to the standard fixtures I8 such as are found in practically the bathrooms of al1 homes and hotels.
Thus, it will be seen that I have provided a tooth brush holder which is of simple, compact structure, affords maximum protection for the enclosed tooth brush and which is Very effective in performing the functions for which i1; is intended.
Minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved tooth brush holder, may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described, Without departing from the spirit f the invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. The combination, with a standard bath room xture having a vertical aperture, of a toothbrush .holder Icomprising a, block, a leg formed integral with the rear portion of said block and removably positioned in the aperture in said bath room fixture, the block being provided in its top with a shallow depression, a pin projecting upward from said block to the rear of said depression, there being an aperture formed tical iianges on the rear portion of said-cap for engaging said pin to hold said cap in place, and With an open ended tube depending from the block to provide a, cover for the'depending portion of said toothbrush.
2. The combination with a bathroom xture for hanging tooth brushes, said xture being provided in its front portion with a Vertical aperture, of a block having an aperture fromed in its forward portion and adapted to receive a tooth brush, an arm depending from the rear portion of -said block and adapted to enter said aperture in the fixture, with the block disposed so that the aperture therein is positioned in front of said fixture, a cap removably positioned upon said block above the aperture therein, a post projecting from the rear portion of said block, a Way formed in the rear portion of said cap for receiving said post when said cap is positioned on said blo-ck and a tube open at its lower end and depending from said block around the aperture therein for protection of the tooth brush suspended from said block.v
