This invention relates to improvements in tent windows, and in particular it relatesto a tent window which is provided with a pocket to receive a removable sheet oftransparent plastic.

In tent window constructions of which applicant is aware it has been the u'sual) practice to have an opening covered by one or more layers of netting to admit light and vair while excluding bugs, and a fabric curtain which could belowered over the netting incase of rain. Insofar as applicant vis awarethere has been no tent Window structure available in which a transparent insert is employed to make the window weatherproof when desired without cutting off light from the interior of the tent.

In my improved tent window construction a tent wall is provided with an opening which is screened with a plastic screening, or the like, and a cover member is fastened to the outside of the tent wall and has an opening in register with the opening in the tent wall. A slot in the tent wall above the opening permits a piece of transparent plastic sheet material to be inserted in the pocket formed in the tent wall and the cover member, the pocket being partially open across the bottom so that any rain which comes through the opening in the cover member may run down the transparent plastic sheet and out the bottom of the pocket. A separate fabric flap on the inside of the tent wall normally covers the slot and may; be rolled down when it is desired to keep light from entering the tent or when privacy is desired.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:

Fig. 1 is a plan view of a tent window constructed in accordance with the present invention, viewing the window from the outside with parts broken away;

Referring to the drawings in greater detail, a tent wall 5 is provided with an opening 6 which is protected by netting 'I, for example plastic screening, which is marginally secured to the periphery of the opening 6 by a line of stitching 8.

A cover member 9 of fabric is secured to the t outside of the tent wall by a line of stitching I0 l `tccted by a fabric screen I2 which issecured to 6 Claims. It will be noted that the cover member has its top margin M a substantial distance above the opening 6 in the tent wall, and

has its side margins I5 and IE a substantial distance from the side margin of the opening E. At the corners of its lower end the cover member 9 has a pairoi diagonal, downwardly and inwardly Vdirected edges I'I and I8 which are stitched to the tent wall by lines of stitching i9 and 20, respectively, and these downwardly and inwardly inclined edges are Vjoined by a straight transversely extending central edge 2I which is detached from the tent wall to provide a drainage opening 2Ia.

Thus, the tent wall 5 and the cover member 9 cooperate to form a pocket 22 which has an opening extending ymost of the way across its lower margin. A transversely extending slot 23 is formed in the tent wall 5 above the opening 6, and has its margin bound in the conventional fashion.` As bestseen in Fig. l the slot extends a substantial distance beyond the opening 6 on both sides, and permits a transparent plastic sheet 24 to be inserted in the pocket 22. The sheet 24 is large enough to cover the opening t and is supported at its lower end by the lines of stitching I9 and 2U on the inclined edges Il and I8 of the cover member 9. The sheet 24 is carried loosely in the pocket 22, and may be removed from the pocket through the slot 23 when it is desired to admit fresh air through the registering openings 6 and Il. The sheet of plastic is preferably provided with a grommet 25 so that it may be hung from a tape on the tent wall when it is removed from the pocket, or from a hook on the tent pole.

When the sheet of plastic 24 is in the pocket, rain which is driven through the outside netting I2 may run down the outer face of the plastic sheet 2li and out through the drainage opening 2 Ia. in the bottom of the pocket.

A fabric flap 26 is secured along its upper margin by a line of stitching 2'! to the inside cf the tent wall and is provided with a center tape 28 on its lower margin which may be secured to a tape 29 on the inside of the tent wall to fasten the cover flap 26 in a position closing the window opening 6 so as to exclude light from the interior of the tent when desired. As seen in Fig. 3, the

yflap 2B may be unfastened from the tape 29 and rolled up so that it occupies a position overlying the slot 23 and entirely above the window opening 6. Two sets of side tapes 30 are secured adjacent the top margin of the flap 26, and may be used to secure the flap in its rolled up position.

It will be seen that the herein described construction provides a simple arrangement by which a transparent window member may be loosely carried in a pocket on a tent wall so as to admit light to the tent while excluding rain and Wind, or may be removed from the pocket for ventilation, and when desired the iiap 26 may be lowered to exclude light from the interior of the tent.

While it `is possible `to eliminate the `netting from the window opening 6 and from the registered opening Il in the cover member 9, it

preferred to have netting in both the openings so as to substantially eliminate the possibility that any bugs can enter the tent,- through the window opening. In the event that. a'bug finds its way up through the drainage opening 21a, bef tween the pieces of screening T and l2, and' into the slot 23, the slot is covered at all times b y the flap 26 which thus assists in making the window assembly bug proof.

The foregoing detailed description is given for clearness of understanding only and no unnecesfV4 sary limitations are to be understood therefrom, as some modifications will be obvious to those skilled in the art.

I claim:

1. In combination with a tent wall having an opening covered with a sheet of netting and a, transverse slot above said opening which extends beyond the lateral margins. thereof, a cover member which has an opening in register with that in the tent Wall secured to the outside of the tent wall to provide a pocket which overlies said opening and extends beyond the opening on all sides, said pocket beingaccessible through said slot and having part of its lower margin, de,- tached from the tent wall, and a loose sheet` f flexible, transparent material held in said pocket;

and adapted to be removed through the slot.

2. The combination of claim 1 in which the at tached portions of the lower margin of the Cover member extend diagonally downwardly toward the detached part thereof.

3. The combination of claim 2 in which the central portion of the cover member only is detached, and the corner portions are attached.

4. The combination of claim 1 in which a ap has one end secured to the inside of the tent wall above the slot and is adapted to be rolled up or let down to cover the opening, and the flap covers the slot in either position.

In combination with a. tent wall having an opening covered with a sheet of netting and a transverse slot above said opening which extends beyond the lateral margins thereof, a cover member -which has an opening covered with a sheet k.of `netting in register with the opening in the tent wall. Vsaid cover member being secured to the outside of the tent wall to provide a pocket which @verlies said opening and extends beyond the opening on all sides, and said pocket being accessible from the slot and having the corner portions only of its lower margin secured tothe tent. and, extending diagonally downwardly toward a, central, detached .portion of said lower margin, and a loose. sheet 0i ilexible, transparent material supported 'in saicipocket on saidk secured corner portions of Said lower margin and adapted to be removed through vsaid slot.
