To all whom it may concern.:

Be it known that l, AMoRErfrA WooDARD, of Indianapolis,Indiana, new and useful Improvements in Corsets, ot which the following is a specification.

This invention has for its object to so construct the corset as to brace and straighten the shoulders, give form and shape to the breast, and form a comfortable and efficient garment.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the front; Fig. 2, a like view ot the bach, and Fig. 3 a view of the metallic brace or support.

Referring by letter to the drawings, A A denote two upright parallel metallic braces, constructed preferably ot' thin steel plates, and having their upper ends, a a, curved outwardly, as shown. Just below the point of curvature the braces A A are connected by a crossfplate, K, and to the lower ends of the braces is riveted or otherwise secured the curved hip-plate G, nearly circular in shape when adjusted in place, and adapted to fit part of the way round the body of the wearer.

The above-described brace is adjusted in the baci; of the corset, which may be of any suitable construction, with the hip-brace Gr extending round in the lower part thereof. Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent ot' the United States- The combination, with a corset, ofthe hereindescribed brace, consisting of parallel upright strips or plates A A, having the top ends, c c, curved outwardly, and connected by cross-plate K and curved hip-brace G, secured to the lower ends of strips A A, arranged as shown, substantially as and for the purpose spectied.
