BY, W
Patented Nov. 24, 1953 UNI-TED STATE-s ortica 1 claim. 1
My invention relates to holders for name and business directory cards, either printed or written, and which are particularly designed for use on the doors of residences, apartments, oices and the like; also on business desks, filing cabinets, storage drawers, and shelves, or wherever a brief identication or information card or panel is required or desirable.
The principal object of my invention is, to provide a simple, practical, and inexpensive holder in the form of a compact attractive plate having a narrow slot or pocket for reception of a directory or information bearing card and the construction of which holder is such as to enable the inserted member to be readily placed in or removed therefrom and when properly enclosed within said holder, to be effectively protected against dust, moisture and finger marks.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction of parts which Will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and i1- lustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a card holder constructed in accordance with my invention. Y
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a detail vertical section of the upper right-hand corner of the holder.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged horizontal section taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 6 is a horizontal section through the central portion of one of the holders end-closing members.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of my invention, I0 designates the body of the holder which is in the form of a plate of suitable transparent material; for instance, clear plastics, and extending lengthwise through said plate is a narrow slot Il adapted to receive a card C, bearing on its front face, printed or written matter, or information.
Formed through the upper and lower portions of plate I0, above slot II, are apertures I2, adapted to receive screws I3, which secure the plate to a base, such as a door, desk, shelf, or the like. To close the open ends of slot II, substantially channel-shaped members composed of semicircular bodies I4 and curved flanges I5 are yslidably mounted on the ends of plate I0, with the edges of said anges occupying vertical grooves I6, formed in the front and rear faces of said plate adjacent and parallel with its ends, and with the iiat inner faces I1 of bodies I4 tting snugly against the ends of the plate.
To maintain the slot end closures in proper position on the ends of the plate, small horizontal plates I8 integral with the upper ends of bodies Ia and flanges I5, occupy rectangular notches I9 formed in upper corners of plate II), between grooves I6 (see Fig. 4).
In some instances it may be found desirable to permanently close slot II at one end of the plate and employ the sliding closure, at the other end only.
The end closures just described are capable of being quickly applied to or removed from the card holding plate, are eiective in preventing the ingress of moisture and dust into the card-containing slot II and they may be made from plastics, metal, or the like, of distinctive color from the plate, and thereby enhance decorative appearance thereof.
Thus it will be seen that I have provided a name or directory card holder which is simple in structure, inexpensive of manufacture, applicable for a wide variety of uses, and very effective in performing the functions for which it is intended.
Minor changes in the size, form and construction of my improved card holder may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of the invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claim.
I claim as my invention:
In a name or directory card holder, the combination with a piece plate of transparent material, provided with a slot open at its ends for the reception of a card bearing written or printed matter on its face, which plate is provided at its ends above said slot with inwardly presented horizontal notches, there being vertically disposed grooves formed in the front and rear faces of said plate adjacent and parallel with its ends, the upper ends of which grooves communicate with said horizontal notches, channel shaped end pieces having a length equal to the vertical dimensions of said plate, slidable onto the ends of said plate with the side edges of said channel shape end pieces occupying the grooves in said plate and horizontal plates integral with the upper ends of said channel shaped end pieces which horizontal plates occupy the inwardly presented notches in said plate above the ends proof joints.
