4 Claims. (01. 128-449) This invention relates to the art of wearing apparel and, more specifically, is for an improved form of under-garment known as a drop-seat panty.
Such under-garments are intended to be worn beneath a girdle or corset and should permit ready access for personal use whenever desired and without disturbing the girdle or corset. One such panty is shown in my own United States Patent No. 2,538,848, January 23, 1951, in the name of Pauline E. Rosenblatt, upon which the present invention is an improvement.
There are also other panties of this same general type now on the market but, so far as I am aware, they are all objectionable because of the comparatively great amount of tapes etc. which have been suggestive of harness about the body of the wearer.
One object of my present invention is to devise a comparatively simple form of drop-seat panty which has supporting means of such structure and arrangement upon the body of the wearer that there may be permitted ready access at any time and that will prove effective in restoring the same to fully normal position, without disturbing the girdle or corset under which the panty is worn.
Another object is to devise such a panty that may have its main body made of a single blank of suitable fabric and of such form that it will provide front, rear and crotch portions as well as portions for the inner parts of the legs of the wearer.
Another object is to devise such a panty that comprises only a single blank of suitable fabric and longitudinally elastic strips that are so arranged with respect to the blank body of fabric and with respect to each other that there may be satisfied all the requirements of such a garment with marked convenience and a feeling of increased comfort upon the part of the wearer.
Another object is to devise such a panty in which the parts are so constructed and arranged that the manipulation of the same for personal use, whenever desired by the wearer, will not disturb the position of the main part of the panty upon the body of the wearer.
Other objects will appear from the following description and claims when considered together with the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 is a front elevation showing my present improved drop-seat panty in position upon the body of the wearer;
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same;
- terial which forms the body of the present panty;
and
Fig. 5 is an enlarged view of a portion of the panty as illustrated in Fig. 3 hereof.
It is to be understood that the present form of disclosure is merely for the purpose of illustration and that there might be devised various modifications thereof without departing from the spirit of my invention as herein set forth and claimed.
Referring now to the accompanying drawing in detail, the main body of the present improved panty is initially in the form of, a single onepiece blank B of suitable absorbent fabric, as for instance jersey, cotton, etc., which may be recognized as having a straight portion I at the middle of the front edge thereof, downwardly extending edge portions 2 and 3 adjoining the two ends of the edge portion I, and end edges 4 and 5 at obtuse angles to the edge portions 2 and 3, respectively. The rear edge of this blank may be formed with angularly arranged parts la, 6 and 1 corresponding substantially to the edge portions I, 2 and 3; the edge portion I a being substantially parallel to the edge portion I while the edge portions 6 and I make acute angles with the end edges 4 and 5, so that the edge portions la, 6 and 1 may be said to extend in a re-entrant manner. The front part of the blank B may be recognized in the panty as B and the rear part thereof may be recognized as 132. The material of the blank B is of non-elastic character.
The blank body B has attached, as for instance by sewing, to the ends of the edge portion I at symmetrically right and left points the two ends of the longitudinally elastic strip 8 which is of such length as to be adapted to extend upwardly just above the hips and about the back of the wearer so as to be supported thereby in a snug manner. The longitudinally elastic strips 9 and III are attached, as by sewing, at their lower ends to symmetrically located right and left points of the rear edge of the blank body B and are sewed at points 8a to the elastic strip 8 at symmetrically right and left points just to the rear of the hips of the wearer and at an elevation just above that of the hips; and these strips 9 and I0 continue forwardly in over-lapping relation to the strip 8 so as to provide double thickness for the forward end portions of the strip 8 and thereby afford h p per degree of yieldability for the front part of the garment.
In the present form of panty as herein illustrated, it will be observed that the points of attachment of the lower ends of the strips 9 and II) are closer together than are the points of attachment of the elastic strip 8 to the front edge of the body of the garment so as to ensure suitably snug fit of this particular structure of garment in all parts thereof. It may be observed also that the tapes 8 and 9 may be formed in three parts; one of them may extend'as a single strip for the entire'length of the strip 8 and the strips 9 may be sewed to the strip 8 and continued forwardly in over-lapping relation to the strip 8 so as to provide the front parts of the strip'8 of double form. In the present form of disclosure, the combined length of the two strips 9 is "approximately the same as the-length of the single tape 8.
Longitudinally elastic strips H and [2 are connected at their ends, as by sewing, to the front and rear'ends of the edge portions 4 and 5 so as to be adapted to extend in a snug manner about the outer parts of the thighsof the wearer. Thus the single blank B comprises front and rear portion and also portions for the legs of the wearer, as clearly indicated in the accompanying drawing.
The entire structure of my present improved panty is entirely free of any metal parts and consists entirely of a single one-piece blank fabric body and elastic strips which may be attached by means of sewing. The edges of the fabric body B may be reinforced throughout by means of suitable fabric tape which may be of a nonelastic character.
Whenever the rear partBl of this panty is lowered by the wearer, such manipulation will be permitted in a most convenient and eflicient manner by virtue of the arrangement of the elastic strips 9 and I0 so as to extend in a substantially straight manner. By having the upper ends of these strips 9 and I0 attached to the strip 8 at points rearward of the hip of the wearer and at an elevation just above that of her hips, the downward pull upon the elastic strips 9 and I0 in a substantially straight manner will produce stretching of the same in a. free manner and also some stretching of the rearward laterally extending part of the elastic strip 8 to sufficient extent for the purpose desired but without disturbing the position of the points 'of attachment of the strips 9 and I 8 to the strip 8 and without disturbing the position of the strip 8 about and above the hips'of the wearer. "Rather the exertion of force downwardly upon the strips 9 and I0 will tend to hold the strip 8 even more securely in position upon the hips of the wearer and about the adjacent region of the wearer's body, by virtue of the fact that the force exerted upon the strips 9 and I0, while the rear part B2 is being pulled down, is applied to the strip 8 at pointsentirely to therea'r of the hips of the wearer. Thus the danger of the strip 8 being pulled down off of the wearer's hips by the exertion of such downward force upon the strips 9 and i0 is reduced to a minimum and, in fact, becomes practically nil. Then, when it is desired by the wearer to replace the rear part B2 to normal or raised position, it is merely necessary to release the same; whereupon the elasticity of the strips will serve to accomplish this reverse manipulation.
Thus I have devised a decidedly simple form of drop-seat panty that is capable of a snug fit upon the body of the wearer with a feeling of increased comfort and dependability throughout the entire extent of the panty including the leg portions which serve as shields to prevent chafing. My present improved panty will permit the rear or seat portion thereof to be lowered at any time in a most convenient manner and a conveniently restored to normal position and without disturbing the girdle or corset beneath which this panty may be worn. Notably my present improved form of drop-seat panty is entirely devoid of any metal parts. Other practical advantages will no doubt suggest themselves to those who are familiar with the art to which this invention relates.
What I claim is: .1. A drop-seat panty, adapted to be worn beneath a girdle or the like, comprising a. front part, a rear part and an intermediate crotch part all connected together as a unitary body, said parts at the right and left thereof together .forming inner portions for the right .and left .legs, respectively, of the wearer, alongitudinally .gion ofthe wearer, and auxiliary longitudinally elastic strips attached at their lower ends to the upper edge of said rear part 'at'symmetrically located points at the right and left thereof and attached alsotothe said main strip at symmetrically located points to the rear and above th'e'elevation of the hips of the wearer, said points of attachment of said auxiliary strips to said main strip corresponding to points closely adjacent to the hips of the wearer so that the upper parts of said auxiliary strips will be adapted to co-operate with the forward parts of said main strip in providing 'a substantially u-shaped means of supporting engagement upon the hips of the wearer.
2. The same structure as recited in claim 1 'hereof and in which said unitary body consists of a single one-piece blank of fabric.
3. A drop-seat panty, adapted to be worn beneatha girdle or 'the'like, comprising a one-piece body'of non-elastic material formed from a blank having a substantially horizontal middle front edgeportion with downwardly inclined edge portions adjoining the right and left ends thereof and having end edges that make obtuse angles'with said inclined edges and having its back edge formed in a re-entrant manner'with th outer portions thereof making acute angles with said endportions, the middle portion of said blank beingadapted to'extend about the crotch of the wearerand upwardly therefrom over the adjoining front and rear parts of the wearer' body, the end portions'of said blank being adapted to provideinner engaging portions for the legs of the wearer, longitudinally elastic strips having their ends attached to the opposite front and rear'of said end portions so as to extend snugly about the outer sides of the legs of the wearer, a longitudinally elastic main strip attached at its ends to the ends of said horizontal middle front edge portion and adapted to extend about and tube supported by and upon the hips and back region of the wearer, and auxiliary longitudinally elastic strips attached at their lower ends to said back edge of said blank material atsymmetrically lo- 5 cated points at the right and left thereof and attached also to said main strip at symmetrically located point corresponding to points to the rear of and above the elevation of the hips of the wearer.
4. Ihe same structure as recited in claim 3 hereof and. in which said auxiliary elastic strips continue from said points of attachment to said main elastic strip so as to provide a double layer from said points of attachment to the ends of said main elastic strip and are attached therewith to the front edge of said blank of material, and in which the aggregate length of said aux- 6 iliary strips is substantially the same as that of said main strip.
