ADJUSTABLE DRILL OP. PLOW POINT.
No. 265,288. Patented oct. 3, 1882.

ArnNr ADJUSTABLE DRILL OR PLOW POINT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 265,288, dated October 3, 1882.
Application filed July 10, 1882.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN E. SroNEsI- FER, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Boonsborough, in the county of Vashington4 and State ot' Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Drill or Plow Points; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ot' the same, ret`erence being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specitication, and to the letters and iigures ot' reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the' drawings is a perspective view ofmy invention; Fig. 2, a sectional View; Fig. 3, a plan viewot' the plow-point, and Fig. 4 a detail view ot' the cap.
This invention relates to certain new and usei'ul improvements in adjustable drill or shovelplow points, and it consists in providing the said point with a series of square or other shaped openings, (not cireular,) through which passes a bolt connected to a cap, the said bolt also passing through a projection or head upon the under side of the cap,.whch is of'a shape similar to the opellings in the point or plow, into which it tits to prevent the cap from becoming displaced; and the invention further consists in providing the hoot or stock with iianges upon its outer sides, between which the point or plow is placed to prevent the lateral displacement of said point or plow.
ln the accompanying drawings, Arepresents the boot of a drill-tooth having upon its outer sides, near the foot, iiangesB, between which is placed the point or plow C, these flanges serving to prevent any lateral displacement of the said point or plow. The point or plow U is provided with a series of square or other shaped openings, D, ot' any desired form other than circular, to allow of the adjustment ofthe said point or plow to the depth for drilling or plowing by means of the head or projection E upon the under side ot a cap, F, being of the same shape and tting in the openings inthe point or plow. The cap and point or plow are secured to the boot or stock by means of a screw- (No model.)
threaded bolt, G, being rigidly connected to the cap, and passing through the projection or head E and boot or stock A, and held by a nut, H. The cap F prevents the dirt from filling up the openings in the point or plow, whileat the same time the projection or head upon its under side iitting the openings in the point or plow admits of the said point or plow being quickly adjusted to suit the convenience ot the operator and the quality of earth upon which it is used. The openings, being ofthe form described, will prevent the point or plow from becoming laterally displaced should the anges upon 'the sides ot' the boot or stock become worn or broken.
Iam aware that it is not broadly new to use a reversible and adjustable point or plow secured to a.drillboot by means of a screw-bolt and nut; but my invention differs from such construction in the novel organization and arrangement of parts, as hereinbet'ore stated,
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The point or plow C, provided with openings D, ot' the form described, in combination with the cap F and boot or stock A, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The cap F, provided upon its under side with the projection or head E, in combination with the point or plow O, having a series ot' openings, D, and the boot or stock A, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The boot or stock A, provided with the flanges B, in combination with the point or plow C, having the openings D, and the cap F, having the head or projection E, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence Witnesses GEORGE It. PORTER, H. J. ENNIs.
