This invention relates to a billfold, and more particularly to the securing of an end section in position.

Billfolds are frequently formed by folding up different parts such as from the bottom edge of the back wall, and inwardly from the ends of the back wall. Various means of securing these sections in desired relation have been provided.

One of the objects of this invention is to provide a means which will be hidden from view, and which will hold the one section interlocked with a section folded up at right angles thereto.

Another object of the invention is to provide a simple form of tongue, with a means secured to the tongue for holding the tongue in position.

Another object of the invention is to utilize the edge of a cut or slit through which the tongue extends for holding the tongue in position.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Figure 1 is a front view of the billfold embodying the invention.

Figure 2 is a view of one end of the billfold in blanked out form before being folded into finished position.

Figure 3 is a View similar to Figure 2, but showing one section folded from the bottom while an end section is open prior to folding.

Figure 4 is a section on line 4--4 of Figure 1.

With reference to the drawings, designates the rear wall of the billfold, a fragmental portion of which is shown in Figure 2. This rear wall has an extension beyond at its upper edge which may be folded inwardly, as shown in Figure 1, to provide the upper portion of the billfold with the finished outer surface of the rear wall.

Two sections I2 and I3 are formed along the right angular edges of this rear wall. One of these sections I2 extends from the lower or bottom edge of the rear wall and along the dotdash line I4, into superimposed relation with the rear wall I0, which thus provides a front wall panel. The upper edge of this front wall panel is finished by turning inwardly the extension I5. This front wall panel is provided with a cut l6 which extends generally laterally of the fold, line I4, and may be curved as shown in Figures 1, 2, and 3. There is another cut I! formed parallel to the cut I6 at a point more distant from the end section I3, providing a strap portion I9 between the cuts. A lining I8 extends over the inner surface of the front wall panel, section I2, as shown in Figure 4, but which is not secured to the strap portion l9 between the cuts I6 and I1, nor is it secured to the portion adjacent the cut I6 except along its top and bottom marginal edges.

The end section I3 is reduced somewhat from its front line 20, and is curved on its end 2I to 2 substantially conform to the curvature of the cut IT. The section I3 may be folded over the panel I2, and this tongue 22 may be passed inwardly through the cut I? above the lining It so as to extend beneath the strap I9 as may be seen in Figures 1 and i. A lip 23 is sewed, as at 24, along a line conforming to the shape of the out It, and at a location so that when the tongue is passed beneath the strap it, this lip may extend beneath the portion 25 of the panel I2, as may be seen in Figure 4. The line of sewing 2t by conforming to the shape of the first out It enables this lip to engage along the entire length of the cut and thus lock the tongue in position beneath the strap. This will enable a pocket to be formed beneath the tongue for the insertion of a small stamp case or the like.

This structure is duplicated at the opposite end of the wallet.

The wallet will have parts such as a filler piece 21, as shown in Figure 1, but as these other parts do not form a part of this invention, they are not herein described.

I claim:

1. In a billfold, a rear wall, a front wall including two sections respectively extending from an end edge and the adjacent end portion of the bottom edge of the rear wall, one of said sections being folded in superimposed relation on the rear wall and having a portion forming a front wall panel, the other section being folded in superimposed relation on said panel and having its free end portion in the form of a tongue, a cut formed in the panel adjacent the connected end of the tongue section, a second cut formed in the panel spaced from the first cut, providing a strap between the cuts, said tongue extending through said cuts passing under said strap, and a lip secured to said tongue intermediate its opposite edges, and beneath said strap, and extending from beneath said strap over the edge of the first said out to lie along the inner side of said front panel holding the tongue in position beneath said strap and forming a pocket between said tongue and said rear wall.

2. In a billfold as in claim 1 wherein the lip is a relatively stiff separate piece of material.
