This invention relates to improvements inband bags, and more particularly I;o hand bags equipped with movable inserts. v
Qne of the objects o1 the present invention is to provide a ladies hand bag or the like equipped with a pocket enclosed combination coin purse and bill fold so connected with the band bag within its pocket that it is normally completely enclosed and protected, but yet easily withdrawab1e to a position aifording ready access t0 either the purse or bill fo1d Without actual physical severance from the hand bag.
A further object of the invention is to provide a. combination bill fo1d and coin purse superimposed on one another for use and reception in a pocket of a. bag or larger receptacle.
A further object 0f the invention is to provide in combination with a hand bag o1 the like, a combination bill fold and coin purse superimposed on one another and having a s1idable sonnection With a pocket of the bag.
A further object of the invention is 1:0 provide in combination with a hand bag or the like, a combination bill fold and coin purse superimposed on one another and accessibly but nonseparably, slidably mounted within a pocket of the bag on a rigid connector.
A further object of the invention is t0 provide a combination structure of the class described wherein the rigid connector on which the combination bill fo1d and coin purse is slidably mounted with respect to the hand bag, extends between adjacent alls or layers 01 the purse anal bilbfold portions respectively and is therefore concea1ed and protected.
A further object of the invention is to provide a non-severable coin and bill purse equipped hand.bag which is of very simple construction, is strong and durable, is neat and attractive in appearance, is easily manipulated, and is well adapted for the purposes described.
With the above and other objects in view the inventionconsists' of' the improved hand bag and its parts and combintions .as sei; forth in the claims, and all equivalents thereof.
In the accornpa.nying drawings in which the same reference characters indicate the same pa.rts in all of the views:
Fig. 1 is a. front vieW of one form of band bag embodying the invention with the cover pr protecting flap released and raised;
Fig. 2 is a. fragmentary view of the showing in Fig. 1 with the combination bill fold and coin purse non-severably moved partially out of its pocket for accessibility;
1932, Serial N0. 628,458
Fig. 3 is a detai1 view of the combination bill fo1d and coin purse taken from the side opposite' to that shown in Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a detail transverse vertical sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 2 only showing a modified form of connector for the bill fold and coin purse With respect to the bag;
Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken on line 6-6 of Fig. 5; and
Fig. 7 is a similar transverse vertical sectional view only showing the normal position 015 the bill fo1d and purse within its pocket of the bag= and I:he consequent disposition of the connector.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, it will appear that th e numeral I0 indicates a ladies hand bag including a body portion II having therein the usual pockets 0r compartments I2. A cover fiap I3 is adapted to be folded over the body portion to protect the pockets or compartments and is secured in closed positi0n against an oute1 wall I4 of the body portion by complementary fastening elements I 5 and I6.
Insofar as the invention is concerned any cf the usua1 pockets of the hand bag III may be used, but for the purpose of illustration an additional pocket I'l has been incorporated in the wall I4 of the band bag, am]. the open free end of said pocket is controlled by a. slide fasterier I8.
The combination bill fold and coin purse, indicated generally by the numeral I9 is mounted within said pocket, but it should be understood that the particular location for the pocket for the member I9 is optional.
The combination bill fold and coin purse I9 comprises a purse portion 20 of usual construction having a front wal1 2 I. Also, the bill 101d portion 22 consists of a, sheet of material such as fabric, leather or composition of suitable proportions folded medially longitudinally upon itself. The bill fold is connected against the face 2I of the purse by being secured along its upper edge to the top frame portion of I;he purse, and the lower edge of the Same flap o r ply of the bill fold is stitched to the lower edge of the face 2l of the purse. However, in the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusivethe 1ower connection between the purse and bill fold .is broken centrally with respe ct to the purse 'to provideaslot 23. 1
Insofar as the form of I;he invention illustrated" in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive is concernd, the combination bill fold and coin purse I9 is adjustably but non-severably connected 130 the hand bag within the pocket I'I by a T-shaped, rigid connecting member 24. The head portion 24' of said connecting member is of greater dimensions than the s1ot 23 so as to p1event withdrawal through said s1ot, and said head portion is positioned in the space between the secured together walls of the purse and bill fo1d. The shank portion of said member 24 depends through the s1ot 23 and is positive1y secured at its lower end to the hand bag I within the pocket I'I, as at 25.
The hand bag is carried and used in the normal manner and ordinarily the member I9 is completely housed within its pocket I'I and the pocket is closed by means of the s1ide fastener I8. A1sp, the entire hand bag is c1osed and protected by the flap I3 Which is normally folded over and secured in p1ace If access to the member I9 is desired the hand bag is opened as is the pocket I'I, and then'the member I9 is bodi1y moved on the shank of the connector 24 130 a position from that shown in Fig. 1 to a partially outwardly projecting and exposed position, as in Fig.2. Further outward movement and severance is prevented by virtue of the attachment of the counector 24 with the hand bag and engagement of the head 24 of the connector with the bottom connection between the bill fold and purse. Access 130 either or both portions of the member I9 is thus afiorded without the danger of losing the member I9 from its pocket.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 5 to 7 inclusive a different form of connector between the combination bill fold and coin purse, and the band bag, is utilized. The construction of the other elements is the same as that previously described. In this form of the invention the coin purse 20, which is superimposed upon the bill fo1d 22, is provided with a depending flexible fiap 26. The lower edge of said flap is stitched t-o an inner Wall of the pocket I1, as at 2'I, and the length of said flap and the disposition of said line of stitching 21 a suitable distance above the bottom of the pocket is such that when the member I9 is in its normal lowered position See Fig '7) said flap 26 will fold neatly upon itseif without bunching while when the member I9 is extended to an accessible position, as in Figs. 5 and 6, the securement of the flap prevents complete withdrawal and severance of the memher I9 From the foregoing description it will be seen that the improved band bag is of simple and novel construction, and is well adapted for the purposes set forth.
