'The present invention relates to 'a :curler lconstruction.

The present invention .particularly relates to fra colorful and attractive womens hair curler for quick and .inexpensive production.

The object of this invention is to provide van efficient and comfortable hair curler that may remain on the .hair indefinitely without ldiscomfort which will feel light on the .hair and be attractive in appearance.

A further object of this invention is to provide a curler which will eliminate any eXtra weight in the culer'by avoiding fillings, extended wires,y

clamps, or objects with .points that would tend to jab or jar the scalp.

A further object of the present invention is to provide an inexpensive, durable curlerwhich may be readily applied by the user thereof and which is particularly adapted to quick and inexpensive production.

A still further object is to provide ^a `simple curler, inexpensively manufactured of fabric "and wire vmaterials in which the strand -'of hair may be readily inserted and upon which said strand may be readily wound and the curler then -closed without discomfort and which will give `a most desirable natural curl to the hair.

Another object is to provide a simple, :novel womens hair curler construction which may be readily manipulated to lreceive a strand of .hair and which will permit ready attachment .to and rolling over of the strand of hair in comfortable and smooth manner and which will permit .either lefthanded-.or righthanded manipulation.

.Still further objects .and advantages will appear in the more .detailed description set forthl below, .it being understood, however, .that :this more detailed description is rgiven by way of illustration and explanation .only and not by way vof limitation, since various changes therein .may .be

Referring to Fig. 1,'thereis provided :the .folded fabric base the wireholder .element B and the snap :connection 1C with lthe .coiled .strand :of hair D in :coiled .position :as .shown rin Fig. L5.

The fabric Algen'erallyimay be o'ffa Leatherette, cloth or canvas and it may'h'ave a flannel cotton backing to give an interior frictional grip.

Inside the legs turn outwardly, as indicated at I'I and form the straight extensions I8 which extend reversely to the ends I9 just short of the bow or base I4. The base I4 is forced through the hole I3 upon assembly before folding of the strip A. The stitching 20 will keep the element B in position and prevent it from slipping out of the folded strip A.

After assembly, the two faces Ill and I2 are folded together and stitched, as indicated at 2l, along the edge 22 and also at 23 and 24 along the

edges

25 and 26. If desired, an inner piece or attaching fold 27 may be provided.

The

end portions

28 and 29 are respectively provided with the male fastener element 3D and the female fastener element 3|. The fastener element 30 has a projecting element 32 whichv corresponds to the recess 33 in the element 3|.

In operation, the end of the strand D of hair is slipped under the holder B and then wound around the holder B and central portion of strip A until the coil of hair is formed. This may be done by manipulating the holder B and strip A with the left forengers leaving right hand free to continue the coiling of the hair.

Then the two free ends E and F (see Fig. 5) are turned downwardly and inwardly so that the opening 33 will snap over the projection 32 and form an X-shaped bow, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. This may be readily done by one hand and will permit coiling of the hair.

The curler may be applied by one hand and either by a left hand or right hand operation. The curlers are durable, may be used again and again, will be comfortable and may be worn Without chafing and will give a most satisfactory curl to the hair.

There is thus provided a light weight, simple and novel womans hair curler, easily manipulated by slipping the ends of the hair directly under the fabric covered Wire holder and then holding the wire holder with the left forengers leaving the right hand free to roll the rest of the hair over the holder and around and around the curler in a comfortable and smooth manner.

The folded strip A may also be reversed when closed with the ends E and F being attached on the opposite side from that shown in Figs.A 4 and 5.

While there has been herein described a preferred form of the invention, it should be understood that the same may be altered in details and in relative arrangement of parts within the scope of the appended claims.

Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of the invention, and in what manner the same is to be performed, what is claimed is:

1. A hair curler comprising a folded fabric strip and a form-retaining reversely bent elongated U-shaped Wire element having the intermediate portion of the sides of the U at the point of bending contacting each other, said element extending longitudinally through and along the central part of said curler to engage a strand of hair to be curled thereon.

2. A hair curler comprising a folded fabric strip having a central part and a form-retaining reversely bent elongated U-shaped Wire element having the intermediate portion of the sides of the U at the point of bending contacting each other, said element extending longitudinally through and along the central part of said curler toengage 4 a strand of hair to be curled thereon and extension tabs to be folded and attached together on one side of said central part.

3. A hair curler comprising a folded fabric strip and a reversely bent wire element extending longitudinally through and along the central part of said curler to engage a strand of hair to be curled thereon, said wire element consisting of a reversely bent U-shaped element, said U- shaped element having the portions of its legs which are bent reversely extending parallel to each other toward the base of the U and substantially spaced apart a greater distance than the width of the U and said legs being in substantial contact at the point of reversed bending.

4. A hair curler comprising a folded fabric strip and a reversely bent wire element extending longitudinally through and along the central part of said curler to engage a strand of hair to be curled thereon, said wire element consisting of a reversely bent U-shaped element having the ends of its legs inside of said strip and the.

base portion and adjacent leg portions on the outside of the strip, said U-shaped element having the portions of its legs which are bent reversely extending parallel to each other toward the base of the U and substantially spaced apart a greater distance than the width of the U and said legs being in substantial contact at the point of reversed bending.

5. A hair curler comprising a folded fabric strip and a reversely bent wire element extending longitudinally through and along the central part of said curler to engage a strand of hair to be curled thereon, said wire element consisting cf a reversely bent U-shaped element so manipulated as to render it stationary, having the ends of its legs inside of said strip and the base portion and adjacent leg portions on the outside of the strip and transverse stitching on said folded fabric strip to prevent it from slipping backward, said U-shaped element having the portions of its legs which are bent reversely extending parallel to each other toward the base of the U and substantially spaced apart a greater distance than the width of the U and said legs being in substantial contact at the point of reversed bending.

6. A hair curler comprising a folded fabric strip and a form-retaining reversely bent elon-` gated U-shaped wire element having the intermediate portion of the sides of the U at the point of bending contacting each other, said element extending longitudinally through and along the central part of said curler to engage a strand of hair to be curled thereon, said wire element being double and having parallel legs and extending through and inside of the inside fold of said folded strip.

A hair curler comprising a folded fabric strip and a reversely bent wire element extending longitudinally through and along the central part of said curler to engage a strand of hair to be curled thereon, said wire element consisting of a reversely bent U-shaped element, so manipulated as to render it stationary, having the ends of its legs inside of said strip, and the base portion and adjacent leg portions on the outside of said strip, and transverse stitching on said folded fabric strip to prevent it from slipping backward, said U-shaped element having the portions of its legs which are bent reversely extending parallel to each other toward the base of the U and substantially spaced apart a greater distance than the Width of the U and said legs being in substantial contact at the point of reversed bendlng.

8. A hair curler `comprising a folded fabric strip and a form-retaining reversely bent elongated U-shaped wire element having the intermediate portion of the sides of the U at the point of bending contacting each other, said element extending longitudinally through and along the central part of said curler to engage a strand of hair to be curled thereon, said Wire element being double and having parallel legs and extending through and inside of the inside fold of said folded strip.

9. A hair curler having an elongated rectangular folded-over fabric strip formed of a rectangular piece of fabric folded in half in the middle and stitched together at the meeting edges having a central portion and tWo end extension portions provided with male and female snap fastener elements and a pair of parallel spaced wires extending longitudinally through the central portion interiorly Within the fold, a pair of converging wires extending externally of the fold on the outside longitudinally of the central portion, said central portion adjacent one end thereof being provided With an opening toward which said Wires converge and said interior and exterior wires being integrally joined through said opening and said exterior Wires being integrally joined 30 at their ends away from said opening.

10. A hair curler having an elongated fabric strip joined together adjacent the edges thereof with a central portion and the end portions with snap fasteners, said central portion between said fabric strips having two parallel separated Wire legs and a small opening in one fabric strip to receive the ends of said legs at one end of said central portion, said ends of the legs being provided With an elongated loop constituting an integral extension thereof and said loop extending longitudinally above and outside of said fabric strip having said hole.

1l. The curler of claim l0 in Which the legs are spaced further apart than the Width of said opening so that the separated Wire legs cannot be removed through said opening.

12. The curler of claim 10, in which the elongated loop is as long as the legs and extends to the other end of the legs at the other end of the central portion.
