This invention relates to new and useful improvements in smoke diffuser attachments for the mouth pieces of pipes, cigar and cigarette holders, and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a smoke diffuser having novel and improved smoke bafliing means over that disclosed in my co-pending application Serial No. 112,885 filed August 29, 1949, now Patent No. 2,582,618, patented on January 15, 1952.

Another important object of the present invention is to provide a smoke diffuser involving a semi-cylindrical member secured over the discharge end of a mouth piece and having a lateral central opening and a pair of end openings through which smoke and air may be drawn to diffuse the smoke and air thereby tending to reduce tongue bite to a minimum.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a smoke diffuser of the aforementioned character wherein a conical element projects laterally from the cylindrical member about the central opening and is formed with fluted portions and further, wherein, the member is formed with baflie forming protuberances, the element and the protuberances co-acting to delay the passage of smoke and air through the memher.

A still further aim of the present invention is to provide a smoke diffuser that is simple and practical in construction, small and compact in structure, efficient and reliable in use, inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purpose for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the present invention and looking at the inside thereof;

Figure 2 is a perspective view of the present invention and looking at the outside thereof;

Figure 3 is a fragmentary view, partly in plan, of a pipe mouth piece and showing the invention in section applied thereto; and,

Figure 4 is a side view of Figure 3 but showing the mouth piece and the present invention in elevation.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral l0 represents a channel 2 member having a G-shaped section including a concavo-convex wall [2 and having end plates 14 and I6 that are provided with slots l8 and 20.

Bendable tabs or anchoring tongues 22 and 24 are formed with the plates l4 and 16. These tabs constitute a means whereby the member ID may be secured to the smoke discharge end E of a mouth piece P.

Formed with and preferably pressed laterally from the concave surface of the wall l2 medially the ends of member H1 is a hollow conical element 26 having raised fluted portions 28. Both ends of the element 26 are open to permit the passage of smoke therethrough, but with restriction due to the fluted portions 28.

A plurality of protuberances 30 are provided on the concave surface of wall l2, preferably by pressing portions of wall I2 outwardly from the concave surface of the wall I2. These protuberances or teats form smoke baflles to delay the passage of smoke and air along the member In and toward the slots [8 and 20.

The diffuser and mouth piece may be that of a pipe or a cigarette holder. In practical use of the present invention, as the user draws smoke through the mouth piece, some of this smoke will be drawn through the slots 20 whereas the remaining smoke will pass through the fluted portion 28. The smoke thus entering the users mouth will not be concentrated at a single outlet but will enter the users mouth from three points, thereby reducing tongue bite and skin irritation resulting from intense smoke heat to a minimum.

Having described my invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. A smoke diffusing attachment for mouth pieces, said attachment comprising an elongated channel member adapted to be engaged over and extend transversely of the outlet end of a mouth piece having end plates, said end plates having slots therein, means attached to said end plates for securing the member to a mouth piece, and a conical member extending laterally from the center of said member and having its ends open.

2. A smoke diffusing attachment for mouth pieces, said attachment comprising a channel member having end plates, said end plates having slots therein, means attached to said end plates for securing the member to a mouth piece, and. a conical member extending laterally from the member and having its ends open, and a plurality of baflie forming protuberances on said channel member and projecting from the same side of the channel member as said passageway.

3. The combination of claim 1, wherein said conical member includes fluted portions.

4. A smoke diffusing attachment for the mouth pieces of pipes, cigar and cigarette holders and the like, said attachment comprising a hollow member having a C-shaped section including a concave-convex wall and end plates at the ends of said wall, said end plates each having a slot therein to permit the passage of smoke through said end plates, a hollow conical element formed with the member and having both its ends open, said conical element projecting laterally from the concave surface of said wall and having fluted portions, and baffle forming protuberances on the concave surface of said wall.
