Patented July 14, 1953 UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE 2,644,953 INFANTS BATHING. DEVICE Benjamin H. Kennedy, Pittsford, N. Application October 11, 1947, Serial No. 779,282
1 Claim; 1
This invention relates to infants bathing devices and has for its object the provision of certain improvements in devices of this character. More particularly, my invention is concerned With bathing devices comprising a foldable tub supported on a collapsible frame and provides an improved means for supporting the infant while being bathed in the tub.
It has been the practice heretofore to provide a hammock for supporting the infant at a position above the bottom of the tub and a headrest in spanning connection with the hammock. The combination hammock and headrest does not provide the flexibility which enables one to obtain the full advantages of infants. bathing devices of the type described herein. I
It is frequently advantageous to bathe the infant in the tub without using a hammock, the infant being placed directly on the bottom of the tub. My invention provides an improved headrest in direct attachment with the tub which supports the childs head independently of the hammock. In its more complete embodiment my invention includes a hammock removably attached inside the tub which may be used with my headrest.
In accordance with my invention, the headrest is attached to opposite sides of the fabric tub by stitching or the like and arranged to span the bottom of the tub so that a very small infant can obtain head support when a hammock is used, and a larger infant can have head support when the hammock is not used.
These and other objects of the invention will be better understood after considering the following discussion taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective of an infants bathing device of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a view along line 22 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a view along line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
The infants bathing device illustrated in Fig. 1 comprises the usual cross-legged supporting frame I having longitudinal rails 2 and 3 on which is supported a collapsible tub 4 formed of a waterproof fabric material, such as rubberized cloth or cloth impregnated with a resinous lac- The headrest 5 is preferably formed of the same material and is attached to the opposite sides of the tub in any suitable manner, as
by means of stitching. The headrest is so positioned in its spanning relation with the bottom of the tub as to support an infants head an appreciable distance above the bottom of th tub.
The hammock 6 which is also preferably formed'of a flexible material, such as that used in the construction of the tub, is removably mounted within the tub so as to span. the bottom of the tub at a lower, position than the 9 and ID are inserted. These rods are insert- I able through strap loops l2 stitched to the sides of the tub by the same stitching that attaches the headrest and strap loop [3 stitched to the tub near the opposite end. In this manner the hammock is readily removable. I may, of course, suspend the hammock on the side rails or in any suitable manner.
The headrest is so ositioned within the tub that it may be used in connection with the hammock as in bathing very small infants which require support above the bottom of the tub, or it may be used without the hammock for bathing larger infants, in which case the intent lies on the bottom of the tub.
I claim: 1
The improvement in infants bathing devices having a collapsible fabric tub supported on a stand which comprises a headrest of fabric material stitched to opposite sides of the tub at a position spaced from the end of the tub in spanning relation and above the tub bottom, strap loops attached to the tub beneath the headrest by said stitching, hammock rods supported by the strap loops, and a hammock removably supported inside the tub on the rodsand arranged I to span the tub at a lower level than the headrest.
