Description

y 1950 a. H. KENNEDY 2,514,767
I INFANTS BATHING DEVICE I Filed Oct. 9, 1947 INVENTOR BEN In MIN ll. KENNEDY Emil 77% /@m ATTORNEYS Patented July 11, 1950 INFANTS BATHING DEVICE Benjamin H. Kennedy, Pittsford, N. Y. Application October 9, 1947, Serial No. 778,811
2 Claims.
This invention relates to infants bathing devices and has for its object the provision of certain improvements in devices of this character. More particularly, my invention is concerned with bathing devices comprising a foldable tub supported on a collapsible frame and provides an improved means for supporting the infant while being bathed in the tub.
It has been the practice heretofore to provide a hammock for supporting the infant at a position above the bottom of the tub and a headrest in spanning connection with the hammock. The
combination hammock and headrest does not provide the flexibility which enables one to obtain the fulladvantages of infants bathing devices of the type described herein.
My invention provides a combination hammock and headrest which permits the headrest to be used with the hammock or independently of the hammock. In a preferred construction, I provide a combination headrest and hammock, .both of which span the tub from the sides and both being in removable connection with the tub. The headrest and hammock may both be mounted on a pair of rods which are removably attached to the tub. i
My invention gives the advantage over the headrests and hammocks heretofore proposed in that the headrest can be used in two relative positions with respect to the bottom of the tub. In bathing small infants the hammock is used with the headrest, in which case the infant assumes a fairly normal reclining position and preferably out of contact with the water in the tub.
When the child becomes larger, thehammock may be removed and the infant placed directly on the tub bottom. The headrest serves to support the head for both positions of the infant.
These and other objects of the invention will be better understood after considering the following discussion taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an infants bathing device of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view along line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view along line 33 of Fig. 1.
The infants bathing device illustrated in the accompanying drawing comprises the usual collapsible supporting frame I with longitudinal rails 2 and 3 for supporting the collapsible tub 4. The tub is formed of any suitable waterproof fabric material, such as rubberized cotton cloth or cloth impregnated with a lacquer.
The combination headrest 5 and hammock 6 are removably mounted inside the tub. In the embodiment of the invention illustrated, the rods 1 and 8 are supported on opposite sides of the tub in fabricstraps 9 and 10 which are stitched to the sides of the tub. While both the headrest and hammock span the tub an appreciable distance above the tub bottom, it will be noted that there is a greater length of material used in the hammock than in the headrest and consequently the hammock assumes a lower position than the headrest.
Both the headrest and hammock are formed by stitching along the edges to provide the tunnels l2 and I3 through which rods 1 and 8 ma be inserted. When it is desired to use the headrest without the hammock, the rods 1 and e 8 are slipped out of the straps 9 and I0 and the hammock is simply slid. off the rods. The headrest, accordingly, is left on the rods and used without the hammock. This feature is particularly advantageous for the bathing of larger children which are placed in a reclining position on the bottom of the tub.
I claim;
1. The improvement in infants bathing devices having a collapsible fabric tub on a supporting frame which comprises a fabric hammock removably attached inside the tub, and a, separate removable headrest mounted inside the tub, whereby the hammock and headrest may be used separately or together.
2. The improvement in infants bathing devices having a collapsible fabric tub on a supporting frame which comprises strap loops attached to the inside of the fabric tub, bars insertable in the loops, a separate hammock and a separate headrest each removably attached to the bars.
BENJAMIN H. KENNEDY.
