1 Claim. 1
My invention relates to drinking cups and in particular to such cups used by infants and small children.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a drinking cup for use by infants and young children which so controls the flow of liquid, in a cup, as a child is drinking same, that such liquid will not overflow or cause such child to choke.
Another object of this invention is to provide a drinking cup that will, by preventing overflow of the liquid in such cup, conserve the supply of such liquid and prevent soiling of the iniants, or childs clothing, while drinkin liquids from such a devised drinking cup.
other advantages in the use of this invention, or device, will be easily observed by a reading of the description and a reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a full view of the device looking at it from the front or drinking side.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View of the device as taken on line A-A, as shown in Fig. 1.
Referrin to the drawing more in detail: I is the device, or cup, 2 is the cover over about onethird of the top of the cup, and, as shown in Fig. 2 has a depression 4 which serves as a receptacle for the upper lip of the child while drinking from the cup, 2 also has a small hole 3 at its outer edge and on the edge of that side of the cup through which the liquid from the cup flows in a controlled volume by reason of the cover 2 and the size of the outlet 3, the part cover 2 also prevents the contents of the cup from flowing over the edge of the cup when same is tilted at an angle by the child, 1. e, while drinking from such cup, 6 is the uncovered top section of the cup. A handle attached to cup is optional, as the cup may be conveniently used without, or with, a handle on same.
A reading of the foregoing description will readily disclose the advantages derived and objects attained by the use of this cup by infants and children in general. The invention, or cup may be preferably made from molded plastic, glass, metal, or any desired material, in one piece.
What I claim as new in my invention and on which I desire to secure Letters Patent is:
As a new article of manufacture, a one piece childs drinking cup including a cylindrical body closed at the bottom and a cover formed integral with the upper end of said .body and covering approximately one third of the area of the top of said body, there being a small drinking aperture in said cover near the edge of the cylindrical body and midway of the juncture of same with the cover, said cover providing a drinking guard c0- operatin with said aperture to prevent too rapid drinking or gulping of the contents through the aperture by the drinker, said cover being formed with a lengthwise lip receiving recess, said cover having the shape of a compound curve in transverse cross section through the aperture, said recess having its central portion serving to receive the lip, and the ends and sides of said recess becoming gradually shallower, there being a large opening at the upper edge of said body for filling the cup, so that said cover serves to revent overflow of liquid from said body.
