The present invention relates to a card case of the type carried in a pocketbook or handbag.

The principal object of this invention is to provide a card case of novel and improved con struction whose main member is made of a single sheet blank of leather or the like, of unique shape, folded to provide a pocket-like formation to house withdrawable card-holding folders, and if desired, may include means to mount keys thereon.

Another object hereof is to provide a novel and improved combination key and card case of the character mentioned, whose main member is made of a single sheet blank requiring no stitching to form the key and card housing formations.

A further object is to provide a novel and. improved article of the type described, which is cheap to manufacture, easy to arrange in its required form and efiicient in carrying out the purposes for which it is designed.

Other objects and advantages will become apparent as this disclosure proceeds.

In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Fig. l is a perspective view showing the completed article embodying this invention. The main body member is shown spread out fiat as it is prior to being folded. If said body member is made of leather having one finished surface, the surface thereof which is visible in this view, is the unfinished one.

Fig. 2 shows the main body member as it is finally arranged. The card-holding folders are shown housed and accessible for withdrawal. The key case portion is in open condition; the key mounting member being on the back surface of the article as here shown.

Fig. 3 shows the article as viewed in Fig. 2, but the key case portion is in closed condition. The card-holding folders are shown in withdrawn position.

Fig. 4 is a rear view of Fig. 2 with a certain flap buttoned on the main body member; said flap closing the mouth of the pocket formation which houses the card-holding folders. This view shows the key case portion in open condition and the card case portion in closed condition.

Fig. 5 is an enlarged side view of Fig. 4 with one of the flaps of the key case portion in its position when the card case portion is in closed condition.

Fig. 6 is an exploded View showing a cardholding folder and associated components.

In the drawings, the numeral I5 denotes generally a fiat T-shaped blank of leather or other suitable bendable sheet material. If one surface thereof is finished, as it would be if of leather, then in Fig. 1 it is the unfinished surface of said blank that is exposed to view. Near and along the top edge of said T-shaped blank, there are a. pair of spaced slits I6 and I! forming a loop l8,

through which the stem portion I9 of said blank is laced and lies fiat. Said stem portion [9 is of a length that when so laced through the loop I8 to lie between the wings 20 and 2|, it will extend beyond the top edge of the T-shaped blank I5, suflicient to form the flap III. This flap when folded over the other side of the blank, serves to close the card case portion 22 of the article as shown in Fig. 5. The wings or side flaps 20, 2| of the blank l5, are foldable towards each other to lie in overlapping relation and thereby close key case portion 23 of the finished article. In such position, said side flaps embrace the stem I9 except the flap I9 portion of said stem.

Glove snap elements

24 and 25 on side flap 20, are adapted for detachable engagement with the complementary glove snap elements 24' and 25' respectively on the other side flap 2|. The glove snap element 26 on the card case flap I9, is adapted for engagement With the complementary glove snap element 26 and is separable therefrom. Said element 26', downward from the top edge of the blank I5, is below the loop I8 and intermediate the side flaps 20, 2|. Immediately below the top of the stem portion IS, on the rear side of the blank as shown in Fig. 1, by any suitable means as rivets 21, there is mounted a key-mounting means 28 which may be of the type including hooks 29, each hook being adapted to hold one or more keys 30. In the finished article arranged as in Fig. 4, the keys rest on stem portion I9, and with the hooks 29, are covered by the overlapped and engaged side flaps 20, 2|, when the key case portion of the article is closed.

One or more folders 3|, are secured at corresponding ends as for instance in an edging 32, to the central part of which edging is secured a flexible strip 33 which may be of fabric material. The free end of said strip 33 is cemented or otherwise suitably secured on the blank positioned as shown in Fig. I, on the stem portion I9 of such blank, immediately below or in the region of the rivets 21, for example.

When the stem portion is laced through the loop I8, said folders 3| will lie in the folder formed by said stem portion I9 with the remainder of the body of the blank I5; said folders 3|, being also laced through the said loop, and they preferably are of a size to extend a little out of the pocketlike formation as shown at 3! in Fig. 2. Cards may be inserted in said folders 3| which latter are preferably of transparent sheeting.

The blank I5 is creased to facilitate folding of the side flaps 20, 2| and the stem portion l9 along the lines A, B, C respectively, and for the;

In fully closed condition, which is the manner of course in which this combination key and card case article is carried in ausers pocket or handbag, the flaps glove snap element 28 is engaged in 26', and the flaps 20, 2| cover the keys 39 and overlap each other with their corresponding glove snaps in engagement. I

It is evident that to have access to the keys, the side flaps 25 and 2| are disengaged, and to have access to permit withdrawal of the major portion of the card-carrying folders 3|, the flap I9 is disengaged.

It is to be noted that said folders 3| may be used for carrying license, registration and other cards which need only be exhibited from time to 9 time, while withdrawable calling cards as 32' may 4 the specific description herein to indicate the scope of this invention.

I claim:

1. An article of the character described made of an elongated flat blank of bendable material provided with a pair of spaced slits adjacent one end edge, formin a loop in said blank intermediate thelongitudi'naledges thereof; the other end portion of said blank being folded over one surface of the blank to form a two-ply structure; said second end being laced through said loop whereby it extends beyond the first end edge of the blank; the part of said blank extending beyond .the first end edge of the blank being adapted to be bent around said first edge and over said loop, to serve as a flap lying on the other surface of said blank and cooperative disengageable elements secured on said flap and on the surface of the blank covered by said flap.

The article as defined in claim 1, including a member of stiff sheet material and a bendable element'secured at one of its ends to said stiff member and at its other end to the surface of the blank intermediate said plies; said stiff member being laced through said loop and lyin between said plies and adapted to be slid through said loop a predetermined distance when the said flap is swung to expose the first end edge of the blank. 3. The article as defined in claim 2, wherein the length of the bendable element'on the mentioned stin" member is such that said stiff member in all positions remains laced through the loop.
