My invention relates to a hair cutting device, more particularly to a trimmer comprising a comb element and a blade element and the objects of my invention are:

First, to provide a hair cutting device of this class which incorporates an angularly adjustable relationship of the blade and comb element whereby the operator may readily adjust the device in order to cut the hair at the desired length.

Second, to provide a device of this class having comb means adjacent to the blade thereof and a secondary comb adjustable relative to the first mentioned comb which provides a scalp engaging means separate from the comb adjacent to the blade permitting angular maneuverability of the blade relative to the scalp and the hair being cut.

Third, to provide a device of this class having the resilient backing spring adapted to adjust the spaced relationship of the blade relative to the comb means adjacent thereto.

Fourth, to provide a device of this class which is very simple and easy to operate,

Fifth, to provide a device of this class which may be used by the layman for trimming hair and which requires a minimum amount of skill.

Sixth, to provide a device of this class which is very inexpensive to use and maintain.

Seventh, to provide a device of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, efficient in operation and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.

With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features and construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon forming a part of this application in which:

Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of my hair cutting device and Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view taken from the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

The handle I is a hollow tubular member similar to a conventional razor blade handle, and reciprocally mounted therein is the shank 2a of the head plate 2. This shank 2a is screw threadably connected with the nut la rotatably mounted at the end of the handle l for adjusting the head plate 2 relative to the comb plate 3,

2 which is fixed to the end of the handle I, as shown best in Fig. l of the drawings. The spring 5 is an 'arcuate-ih-cross section plate spring having its convex surface directed away from the head plate '2 and engaging the razor blade 4, for adjusting the same relative to the teeth 3b of the comb plate 3. This blade 4 is provided with cutting edges 4d opposed to each other and is preferably a conventional-razor blade.- The guide comb t is a flat plate member provided with a sleeve to slidable along the handle I, integral with which are the tapered fingers 6a surrounded by the ferrule l which is adapted to wedge the tapered finger 5a securely in fixed relationship to the handle i for fixing the guide comb longitudinally thereof.

The operation of my hair cutting device is substantially as follows:

When it is desired to adjust the spaced relationship of the edged portions Ila of the blade 4 with the comb teeth 3b of the comb plate 3, the nut la is tightened or loosened which causes compression of the arcuate spring 5 against the blade l which progressively engages the blade 4 nearer the edge 4a as the plate 2 is forced toward the blade 4, thus the spaced relationship of the edge 5a of the blade 4 may be adjusted for the purpose of adjusting the cutting angle of the blade 4 relative to the comb plate 3. The guide comb 6 is adjustable in its spaced relationship with the comb plate 3, by means of the ferrule l hereinbefore described and the guide comb 5 provides for engagement with a person's scalp and its teeth portion 61) for supporting the edge 4a of the blade 4 in certain relationship with the hair in order to cut the same at the desired length. It will be noted that the tilting of the blade 4 over the teeth 52) of the comb plate 6 permits the operator to maneuver the blade 4 as desired for trimming the hair as desired. It will be noted for the purpose of close trimming both the teeth 3b and the teeth 61) of the comb plate 3 and 6 may engage the scalp and during the trimming of hair a greater distance from the scalp, the comb teeth 5b of the guide comb 6 may engage the scalp and the handle I may be used to maintain the relationship of the cutting blade 4 to the scalp as desired. The guide comb 6 when moved away from the comb blade 3 tends to cause my hair cutting device to cut the hair at a greater distance from the scalp than when the guide comb 6 is close to the comb plate 3.

Though I have shown and described a particular construction combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be 3 limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangements as substantially as set forth in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a hair cutting device, a handle, a comb plate on one end of said handle, a blade adjacent said comb plate, a head plate adapted to clamp said blade against said comb plate and an arcuate spring intermediate said head plate and said blade having its convexsurface engaged with said blade, and a guide comb on said handle adjustably mounted longitudinally thereof in spaced relationship to said comb plate.

2. In a hair cutting device, a handle, a comb plate on one end of said handle, a blade adjacent said comb plate, a head plate adapted to clamp said blade against said comb plate and an arcuate spring intermediate said head plate and said blade having its convex surface engaged with said blade, a guide comb on said handle adjust- -ably mounted longitudinally thereof in spaced relationship to said comb plate, and said comb plate and said guide comb having teeth, the teeth -on said guide comb being spaced to a greater distance from the axis of said handle than the teeth on said comb plate.

3. In a hair cutting device, a handle, a comb plate on one end of said handle, a blade adjacent said comb plate, a head plate adapted to clamp said blade against said comb plate and an arcuate spring intermediate said head plate and said blade having its convex surface engaged with the said blade, a guide comb on said handle adjustably mounted longitudinally thereof in spaced relationship to said comb plate and; said comb plate and said guide comb having teeth, the teeth on said guide comb being spaced a greater distance from the axis of said handle than the teeth on said comb plate and means for fixing said guide comb on said handle comprising a pair of tapered fingers on said guide comb and a ferrule, slidably surrounding the same and said handle for wedging said fingers adjacent said handle and holding said guide comb.
