1 Claim. (Cl. 222-545) This invention relates to a device designed for positioning on a box of the cardboard type, wherein the boxes contain soap powders, cereals, or similar granular material.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily and easily attached over one corner oi the box in which the material is packaged, an opening having been formed in the box through which material is poured and controlled in its passage from the box.

Another important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily and easily slipped into position, the device comprising a spring nger which cooperates with one Wall of the device in gripping the front Wall of the box in which the material is contained.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a dispensing device embodying a pivoted disc-like member formed with openings of various sizes, the disc-like member being pivotally mounted so that a portion thereof extends above the upper side of the device for engagement by the iinger of the operator, in moving the rotary member to bring a selected opening before the discharge opening of the device.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.

Referring to the drawing Figure 1 is a fragmental perspective view of a box containing granular material, showing the dispensing device constituting the subject matter of the present invention, as positioned thereon.

Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 3.

Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the dispenser comprises a body portion including a front Wall 5, side walls `t and a top 1, the dispenser being so constructed and arranged that it will t over the top, both corners and the front and side walls of the box in which the material to be dispensed, is contained.

As shown, the front wall is provided with a discharge opening 8 which is positioned over the cut out portion or discharge opening 9 of the box over which the device is positioned, so that the contents of the box may flow therethrough.

As shown, the lower end of the front wall 5 extends outwardly as at I0 to guide the front Wall of the device over the side wall Il of the box on which the device is placed.

Secured to the inner surface of the front wall 5, and extending an appreciable distance below the lower edge thereof, is the spring arm l2 which cooperates With the front Wall 5 in gripping the side Wall Il, removably securing the device in position,

When positioning the device, it is of course to be understood that a portion of the upper edge of the box on which the device is positioned, is cut away providing the discharge opening 9, and it is through this opening that the spring arm l2 is extended in positioning the device.

Mounted for rotation on the front wall 5 of the pouring device, is the disc I3 which is so positioned, that a portion of the disc extends above the top 1 of the pouring device, to be engaged by the thumb or forenger of the hand in rotating the disc. This disc is provided with discharge openings I4 of various sizes, so that the disc may be rotated to bring a predetermined sized opening lll before the discharge opening 8, thereby regulating the amount of material poured from the device.

From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have provided a pouring devi-ce to be fitted over one corner of a pasteboard box usually employed in packaging powdered soaps, cereals or other granular material, the pouring device providing means wherein the pouring opening may be completely closed to prevent waste of the material contained in the box, should the box be knocked over when not in use and resting on a shelf.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:

The combination with a rectangular box having a discharge opening, upper corners, a top wall, a front and side walls, of a pouring device fitted over such discharge opening, corners and Walls, comprising a body having a discharge opening, a top wall, front wall and side walls, a spring arm secured to the inner surface of the front Wall of the body at the upper end thereof, said arm being disposed in the discharge opening, said arm being arranged in parallel relation with said front Wall of the box and body and cooperating with said front walls in gripping the inner surface of said front wall of the box, and means providing a valve mounted on the front wall of the body opposite to the discharge opening of the box and body. controlling the discharge of material from the box.
