Description

Feb. 17, 1953 D. o. FORD KEY CHECK AND MATcHBooK HOLDER 4Filed Feb. 27, 1950 I N VENTOR ATTORNEYS! Patented Feb. 17, 1953 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE KEY CHECK AND MATCHBOOK HOLDER David 0. Ford, San Antonio, Tex. Application February 27, 1950, Serial No. 146,500
(Cl. 20S-20) 1 Claim. l
This invention relates to a combined key check or identification tag and match book holder.
An object of this invention is to provide a key check or identification tag adapted for mounting on a key chain whi-ch includes means for rerrcvabiy holding a match book so that when the match book is closed it will be locked onto the holder or check.
Another object of this invention is to provide a key check and match book holder which also includes a blade or edge formed on the check for use in scraping a windshield.`
A further object of this invention is to provide a combined key check and match book holder which can be produced at small -cost and which will permit the placement of a name yor advertisement on one face thereof.
With the above and other objects in View, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawings and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a detailed front elevation of Ia key check or tag constructed according to an embodiment of this invention and having a match book mounted thereon. l.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a front elevation of the key check with a match book removed.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary horizontal section similar to Figure 3 showing this match book holder on a wall of a cigarette case.
Referring to the drawing:
The numeral I `designates generally a key check or identication tag which is provided with a tongue II at its upper end formed with an opening I3 through which a chain I2 is adapted to loosely engage. The check o-r tag I0 includes a rectangular body I4 which is formed with a straight bevelled edge I adapted to be used as a scraper for scraping ice or the like from the front face of a windshield. The body I4 is provided at its opposite longitudinal edges with a pair of inwardly projecting flanges I6 forming inwardly opening channels I1 within which the back I8 of a match book I9 is adapted to engage.
In the mounting of the match book I9 in the channels I'I the cover 20 is opened Iand is moved upwardly through the channels I'I until the back I8 of the match book is disposed in confronting Iposition to the forward side of the body I4. The
cover may be swung downwardly to the closed position shown in Figure 2 whereupon the cover will lock the match book or package onto the 2 check or tag I0. When a match is to be removed from the match book the cover 2U may be raised Without removing the book or package from the check. The check I4 is'adapted to have advertising material or other indi-cia on the rear side thereof so that this key check may be made and produced at a small cost or possibly as an aldvertising element which is given away by the advertiser. This device is preferably formed out 'of plastic material which when the device is used as a windshield scraper will not scratch the windshield.
Referring to Figure 5 the numeral y2| designates a wall of a cigarette case of Iconventional construction which has xed to the outer side thereof a match book holder I0a formed of a plate I4il having a pair of opposed flanges I 6 on the opposite vertical or lengthwise edges thereof. A match book is adapted to engage flanges I6a in the same manner as shown Iin Figures l to 3.
What is claimed is:
In combination, an advertising tag and scraper formed of a plate of relatively inflexible, nonabrasive material having advertising media on one side thereof, an apertured tongue extending from one end of said plate, a pair of confronting inwardly reverted arcuate flanges `carried by the opposite lengthwise edges of said plate on the side opposite said advertising media, for the reception of rthe back of a mat-ch book having a lback vand a foldable cover, said back engaging beneath said flanges and said cover engaging over said flanges to thereby lock the match book onto said tag, and a beveled edge on the end of said plate opposite said tongue forming a scraper blade.
