Description
(No Model.)
' M. OOPP.
FOOT BEST FOR GHAIRS.
No. 262,278. Patented Aug. 8, 1882.
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MONROE M. CORP, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
FOOT-REST FOR CHAIRS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters lPatent No. 262,278, dated August 8, 1882.
Application filed September 9, 1881. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MONROE M. COPP, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Rochester, in the State of New York, have invented a new and useful Foot-Rest for Surgeons or Gynecological Chairs and Tables, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in foot-rests attached to chairs or tables in the 0ftice of the physician or in the hospital, and is intended for holding the feet and limbs of the patient in an easy and proper position for such examinations and treatment as may be deemed necessary. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top view of my device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, showing one means ofattachment to a surgeons table, the stirrup or foot-rest being shown by dotted lines in the inner operative position and in its closed or folded position. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the slotted bar which carries the stirrup, the slot being of a slightly-varied form.
The same letters represent like parts in all the figures.
A is a flat bar of iron slotted, as at O, and notched, as at c. This bar is attached by the hinge F (or by other well-known means which will admit of the bar being folded or slid under or into the table or chair to which it is to be attached) to the leg E of the table D.
B is a loop or stirrup, having cheek-pieces cl and check-bar e, which stirrup is attached movably to the bar A by means of a screw or rivet, b, passing through the cheek-pieces d and the slot 0 in the bar A. The bar A is also provided with a projecting stop or tooth, f, on the lower side.
bite of the check-bar against the lower side of the bar A it will be retained in such position. When the stirrup is moved to such point as will bring the screw or rivet b to the notch c it will drop therein and hold the stirrup in that position, as shown in Fig. 2 in dotted lines at g. The stirrup may be folded over for convenience into the position shown by dotted lines at h, Fig. 2. The notch may be cut at any part of the slot 0, and more than one may be used, as desired. The tooth or stop flimits the inward movement of the stirrup by reason of the cheek-bar 6 coming in contact with it.
Having described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. The combination, with a chair or table, of
the bar A, having slot 0, notch c, and stop f, and the stirrup B, having cheek-pieces d d, screw or rivet b, and check-bar e, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with a chair or table, of the bar A, having slot 0, and the stirrup B, having cheek-pieces d d, screw or rivet b, and check-bar e, as and for the purpose set forth.
MONROE M. OOPP.
