The interior barrel may 'belocked to-the exterior cylin er b ns o a ng'ri a loc in Pi s d fi eeeable lo itudinal y in p ripheral grooves in the barrel. A disadvantage of such known cylinder locks is-that they can only be employed in connection with the particular lock construction for which they are intended.
The object of the present invention is to provide a cylinder lock of the type mentioned above, which can be applied to any lock construction in which such cylinder locks are employed.
The invention is more explicitly explained in the following specification with reference to the accomp n g n n h h Fig. -'1 is-a longitudinal section through a cylinder lock according to the invention, on line I-I in Fig. 2 with the locking pins in their locking position in relation to the locking ring,

Fig. 7 shows in side elevation one end of the lock barrel.
The lock cylinder consists of two cylinder parts 12 and l2a of approximately equallength that are relatively spaced and interconnected by means of an arched bridge 8. The one cylinder part [2 has around its inner end a recessed portion H to which applied a flanged locking ring I which along its interior edge has a number of arcuate recesses 19. This locking ring is by appropriate means attached to the cylinder part to prevent its rotation in relation thereto.
A lock barrel II is rotatably journaled within the two cylinder parts l2 and I2a. This barrel is provided with several, for instance four longitudinal bearings l0 disposed so close to the periphery of the barrel that each boring forms an open space along the barrel surface. The cylinder lock is operated means of 'a key '20; whi h in erted t ro gh an ap u 1' in the one "ortherother end wall ofithe cylinders l2 "or l2a andis provided with a bit 23, which enters the recess 22a mentioned above in the end plate 4. The key has shoulders 2|, which are so positioned that they engage the locking pins and displace them to a position in which the annular grooves 9 or 9a of the locking pins I register with the locking ring I and thus release the barrel in relation to this locking ring. By means of the key the barrel can be fully rotated within the cylinder.
The barrel II has connected thereto a radially extending locking bolt I 6 so positioned that upon rotation of the barrel the arm moves within the space between the cylinder parts-l2 and H11 inside the bridge 8. This locking bolt coacts with a striking plate not shown.
I claim:
1. A cylinder lock comprising in combination stationary tubular holding members arranged oppositely and spaced from each other; a stationary locking ring arranged upon one of the said holding members in the space formed between said stationary tubular holding members so as to leave between itself and the other of aid holding members a slot; a stationary connecting member connecting said two stationary tubular holding members so as to be spaced from the edge of said slot; a freely rotatable lock barrel passing through said stationary locking ring and projecting into both said oppositely arranged stationary tubular holding members; at least one looking member arranged within said lock barrel slidably in longitudinal direction of the same and shaped so as to project beyond the surface of said lock barrel and to be adapted to engage when in looking position said stationary locking ring, preventing turning of said lock barrel; spring means arranged between said stationary tubular holding members and said locking member tending to keep the same in looking position; an opening at the outer end of each of said stationary tubular holding members through which said locking member can be reached by means of a key and moved from looking position into unlocking position in which it does not engage said stationary locking ring; and a lock controlling projection on said freely rotatable lock barrel arranged outwardly projecting through said slot.
2. A cylinder lock comprising in combination two stationary tubular holding members arranged oppositely and spaced from each other so as to form a slot between themselves; locking means arranged on one of said stationary tubular holding members projecting inwardly into the space between the same; a freely rotatable lock barrel arranged within said tubular holding members; a lock controlling projection on said freely rotatable lock barrel arranged outwardly projecting through said slot; connecting means firmly connecting said tubular holding members so as not to interfere with turning of said lock controlling projection when the same is turning together with said freely rotatable lock barrel; at least one looking member arranged within said lock barrel slidably in longitudinal direction of the same and projecting beyond the surface of said lock barrel in such a manner as, to be adapted to engage when in looking position said locking means, preventing turning of said lock barrel; and means for moving said locking member in longitudinal direction of said lock barrel so as to move it out of engagement with said locking means, thereby enabling turning of said lock barrel and said lock controlling projection thereof.
3. A cylinder lock comprising incombination stationary tubular holding members arranged oppositely and spaced from each other so as to form a slot between themselves; locking means arranged on one of said stationary tubular holding members projecting inwardly into the space within the same; a freely rotatable lock barrel arranged within said tubular holding members and provided with at least one longitudinal groove; a lock controlling projection on said freely rotatable lock barrel arranged outwardly projecting through said slot; connecting means firmly connecting said tubular holding members so as not to interfere with turning of said lock controlling projection when the same is turning together with said freely rotatable lock barrel; a locking member arranged within said longitudinal groove freely slidably within the same in longitudinal direction of said lock barrel between locking position engaging said locking means and preventing turning of said lock barrel and unlocking position out of engagement with said looking means and permitting turning of said lock barrel; two spring means arranged within said groove, one on each side of said locking member tending to hold the same inlocking position engaging said locking means; and an opening at the outer end of each of said oppositely arranged stationary tubular holding members enabling introduction of a key into said groove and movement of said locking member from the outer side of either of said holding members from looking into unlocking position in which latter position said lock barrel is turnable by said key.
