Claims.

Our invention relates to a childs foldable toilet seat, more particularly for use in supporting children on conventional adults toilet seats and the objects of our invention are:

First, to provide a toilet seat of this class which is foldable and arranged to be carried in a very compact package so that a childs mother may readily set up the childs toilet seat on a conventional adult toilet seat when in public places;

Second, to provide a childs toilet seat of this class which provides sanitary seating for chil dren when using public toilets;

Third, to provide a childs toilet seat of this class having flexible material on which a child may sit providing a very comfortable toilet seat;

Fourth, to provide a childs toilet seat of this class having means frictionally engageable with a conventional adult toilet seat for positively maintaining the childs toilet seat in proper position on the adult toilet seat;

Fifth, to provide a childs toilet seat of this class which is very strong and rigid in proportion to its weight;

Sixth, to provide a childs toilet seat of this class in which the foldable relationship of the seat frame maintains the resilient flexible covering in tight condition when the frame is in extended position; and

Seventh, to provide a childs toilet seat of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, eificient in operation, and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.

With these and other objects in View, as will appear hereinafter, our invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon forming a part of this application in which:

Fig 5 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken from the line 5-5 of Fig. 1; Fig. 6 is a fragmentary sectional view taken from the line 66 of Fig. 4; and Fig. 7 is an enlarged sectional view taken from the line 11 of Fig. 2.

The frame members I are preferably made of light tubing and are L-shaped in form, as shown best in Fig. 1 of the drawings. These L-shaped frame members I are secured together intermediate the corners of our childs toilet seat by means of the hinges 2. These hinges 2 are substantially U-shaped in cross section, as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, and are provided with hinged pins 2a extending through the ends of the frame members I, as shown in Fig. 6 of the drawings. At the corners of our childs toilet seat formed by the frame members I are the bearing members l. These bearings members i are positioned in surrounding relation with the frame members I at the corners thereof and are preferably made of flexible material such as rubber or the like which provides a bearing surface for our childs toilet seat when placed on an adult toilet seat for maintaining the same in secure engaged relation with said adult toilet seat. The cover 3 is a flexible cover preferably made of fabric or the like or, if desired, may be made of various synthetic resins or fabric material treated with various water-proofing materials. This cover 3 is provided with a central opening 3a therein, as shown best in Flg. 1 of the drawings, and is extended about the frame members I, as shown best in Fig. 5 of the drawings. At the corners of our childs toilet seat the cover 3 is provided with cut-out portions 31) arranged to accommodate the bearing members 4, which extend outwardly of the cover 3. The cover 3 is provided with cut-out portions 30 arranged to accommodate the hinges 2 at two opposite sides of our childs toilet seat and is provided with cut-out portions 311 arranged to clear the remaining hinges 2 when in folded position. It will be here noted that the axis of the hinged pins 2a, in connection with the hinges 2, are parallel to each other at 01 posite sides of the childs toilet seat. As shown in Fig. 1- of the drawings, two of the hinges 2 at opposite sides of our childs toilet seat are provided with hinged pins substantially parallel to the plane of the cover 3. The two remaining hinges 2 are provided with hinged pins disposed in substantially perpendicular relationship to the plane of the cover 3. Thus, adjacent hinges 2 are provided with hinged pins perpendicularly disposed to each other.

The operation of our childs toilet seat is substantially as follows:

When our childs toilet seat is in extended condition, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, it may be positioned on the upper surface of a conventional adult toilet seat and the bearings e engage the adult toilet seat and maintain frictional contact therewith whereby our childs toilet seat is maintained securely in position on the adult toilet seat. It will be noted that the bearing members '4 are preferably made of rubber or other material having a high co-efficient of friction relatively with the surfaces of conventional adult toilet seats. When the childs toil'etiseat, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, is positioned .on the adult toilet seat, the child may sit on the cover 3 over the opening 3a thereof in a very comfortable manner and sanitation. of the child is maintained by the protection afforded. by our childs toilet seat positioned over an adult toilet seat. When it is desired to fold our childs toilet seat into a compact package, the hingesZ are first folded so that the childs toilet seat is in the position as shown in Fig. '2 of the drawings. Then, the remaining hinges 2 are folded on a perpendicular axis 'to the first folded relationship, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, whereby a, substantially rectangular package of small size, as shown in'Fig. 2 of the drawings, is produced. When folded into the position, as shown in Fig. 3 'of the drawings, the compact condidition of the childs toilet seat lends itself to transportation in a mothers handbag or the like, providing a re'adilyavailable toilet seat for children when in public places with their parents or guardians. r 7

Though we have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, we do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and-arrangement, but desire to include in the scope of our invention, the construction, combination and arrangement. substantially as set forth in the appended claims.

, 3. In a childs toilet seat of the class described,

the combination of a frame flexible covering for said frame, having an opening therein, said frame composed of four L-shaped frame members and four U-shaped in cross section hinge members having hinge pins extending through adjacent ends of said frame members, two of said hinges having their axes at right angles to the plane of the seat, the other two of said hinges having their axes parallel to the plane of the seat, and all of said hinges having pivotal actio'n'in one direction only. t
