U ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRISON D. SMITH AND FRED A. SMITH, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
COMBINED PACKING AND TOY BOX.
. PECIFIOATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 261,775, dated July 25,; 1882.
Application filed June 6, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HARRISON D. SMITH and FRED A. SMITH, both citizens of the United States, and residents of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Packing and Toy Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to a combined packing and toy box. 7
The object of our invention is to provide, in connection with a packing-box ornamented 'on its longitudinal face or faces with fragmentary or vignette pictures, an open case or tube to fit and slide over it in 'a telescopic manner, and which is ornamented with fragmentary pictures that register with those on the box by means ofsuitable openings or sights made in the face or faces of the said tube.
Other features of our invention will be fully set forth in the following description of the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view ofa combined packing and toy box embodying our invention, with one of the sides of the casing or tube removed to show one complete ornamented face of the packing-box. Fig. 2 is a perspective view, showing the two parts of our box separate, but without ornamentation.
A represents the box proper, in which goods are packed. It is shown closed at both ends; but it is apparent that a detachable cover fitting a shouldered top could be employed, if desired.
We prefer to make the box A of polygonal 0 represents an open-ended casing or tube,
which is of the same form and configuration as the box A, and slides over it in a telescopic manner. Tube 0 is ornamented with suitable fragmentary pictures on its faces or sides D.
c c are openings or sights, made preferably in the upper end oftubeO, in which are brought or appear in turn'the heads or fragmentary pictures on the box A, to register with those on the said tube by sliding either of the memhere A or 0 through or upon one another.
We claim A combined packing and toy box composed of an ordinary packing-box, A, and a sliding tube, 0, provided with the opening or openin gs 0, both beingornamented with fragmentary pictures which register, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
