My invention relates to a binder for holding loose sheets.

Among the objects of vmy invention is to provide a binder to be quickly and yeasily applied to loose sheets to hold them together, and which may be as quickly and easily released therefrom; to create a binder formed of cardboard and operated by rubber bands; to present a holder which will firmly hold sheets formed to be inserted therein.

My invention also contemplates such other objects, advantages and capabilities as will later more fully appear and which are inherently possessed by my invention.

While I have shown in the accompanying drawings a preferred embodiment of my invention, yet it is understood that the same is susceptible of modication and change Without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Referring to the drawings, Fig. l is plan view of my blank and Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same; Fig. 3 is a plan view of my blank with the stiffener attached and Fig. 4 is an edge view of the same; Fig. 5 is an enlarged view of the blank partly broken away and showing the notches; Fig. 6 is an enlarged end view of my binder with the sheets shown in dotted lines; Fig. 'Tis an end view of my binder without the sheets; Fig. 8 is a view of my cover and Fig. 9 is an edge view of the same; Fig. 10 is a view of my sheet; Figs. l1 and l2 are edge views of modified structures and Fig. 13 is a view of the blank for the binder shown in Fig. 12.

The embodiment selected to illustrate my invention comprises a blank IIl preferably formed of cardboard with a glazed surface. My blank I is rectangular in shape with opposite edges II and I2. A longitudinal score I3 extends across blank Ill at a point inwardly from edge I I forming outer portion I4 and a corresponding longitudinal score I extends across blank I0 at a point inwardly an equalrdistance from edge vI2 forming opposite outer portion I6.

Inwardly spaced from score I3 an equal distance is longitudinal score 25 forming intermediate portion 26 and correspondingly inwardly `spaced from score I5 is longitudinal score 21 2 inwardlyr on scores I3 and I5, and upper and lower

intermediate portions

26 and 28 are respectively bent inwardly on scores 25 and 21.

Extending longitudinally from both the upper and lower edges of outer portions I4 and I5 are horizontally spaced slots 30 and 3|.

' A resilient loop memberl 32, preferably a rubber band, is positioned to extend between opposite slots 30 of portions I4 and I6 and another resilient loop member 33, preferably a rubber band, is positioned to extend between opposite slots 3I of portions I4 and I6.

The smooth 'surfaces of portions I4 and I6 are adapted toreceive between them inserted side ends of a pluralityvof sheets 34. The

32 and 33 are adapted to stretch to permit the reinforced portions to be moved away from each other for `the insertion of the sheets and then to contract by their inherent resiliency for holding the sheets in position.

Each of the sheets 34 rhas, extending longi tudinally from its upper and lower edges a pair of horizontally spaced slots 35 and 36. Slots 35 are positioned to receive loop 32 and slots 36 receive lo'op 33. By this construction, sheets 34 are firmly held against accidental disengagement.

A front cover 31 has an inner portion 38 of substantially the same width as intermediate portion 26 and is attached thereto by suitable means such as an adhesive. A longitudinal score 39 is at the outer end of inner portion 38. Front cover 31 is bent inwardly on score 39. Extending beyond score 39 is major cover portion 4I).

A corresponding lower cover 4I has an inner portion 42 of substantially the same width as intermediate portion 28 and is attached thereto by suitable means such as an adhesive. A longitudinal score 43 is at the outer end of inner portwo described herein.

Portion I4 on its upper and lower edges has longitudinal slots 5| spaced horizontally from longitudinal slots 52 on the upper and lower edges of portion 41. When my blank is bent outwardly on score 45 slots 5l and 52 are i nalignment.

Likewise, portion I6 on its upper and lower edges has longitudinal slots 53, spaced horizontally from slots 54 on the upper and lower edgesgof portion 48. When my blank is bent outwardly on score 49 slots 53 and 54are in alignment. A single resilient member 55 extends between said slots. This embodiment of my binder is Vadapted to hold sheets or cards 34,;as shown in Fig. ,12. Extending integrally outwardly beyond score 4S is upper cover 56. Extending integrally outwardly beyond score 49 is lower cover `5'1.

Having thus described'my invention, I claim:

A binder for loose sheets comprising a pair of opposite outer portions, a pair of spaced intermediate portions adjacent and integral with said outer portions, and acentral portion between and integral with said intermediate portions, horizontally spaced longitudinallyextending scores separating said intermediate portionsfrom said outer portions and from said central portion, the upper and lower edges of each of said outer portions having a pair of horizontally spaced longitudinally extending slots, said outer portions'bent inwardly on the scores between them and said 4 intermediate portions, said intermediate portions bent inwardly on the scores between them and said central portion, so that said outer portions are opposite each other, and a pair of rubber bands extending around said outer portions and positioned within said slots, and contacting the outer surface of said outer portions to move opposite outer portions into contact, said intermediate portions covering said rubber bands, said bands adaptedfto be stretched' to ,permits'aidoter portions to part to receivethe inner'edges of a plurality of loose sheets therebetween and to contract to hold the inserted sheets, and integral front and back covers, each cover having an inner portion adjoining and integral with an outer portion of: the binder and a major portion integral with an inner portion of the cover, a longitudinal score between each inner portion of the cover and adjoining outer portion of the binder, each cover bent inwardly on said :score so that said inner portion of the cover extends along and is coextensive with said outer portion of the binder,.and a longitudinal score between each inner and major. portions of the cover, ,each cover bent outwardly on said-score and extending horizontally beyond the binder andof suiiicient size to cover the inserted sheets.
