This-invention relates to and has for an.ob;
ject the provision of a ilexiblesironing board cov-er of fabric which is capableofffready attachment to and detachment from a conventional ironingA board and which, when applied for usewi'll stretch and remain stretched on a board against accidental displacement and is free from usual fasteners, clips, springs or other devices sometimes employed.
It is well known that usual covers for such a purpose consist merely of a sheet of cloth stretched over the top surface and marginally extended over the lateral edges and thence under the board and fastened vas by means of pins, clips, or otherwise. Other covers have been applied and heldstretched as by means of cords, elastic bands or springs connected to opposite marginal portions of the sheet beneath the board, or occasionally held at the edges of the boards in grooves as by means" of tensioned rods or' other types of retainers,
All of such devices have been found to be more or less inconvenient, troublesome and otherwise unsatisfactory.
Hence, it is a primary object to provide a cover of maximum durability, convenience and economy and having features designed to expedite and facilitate its attachment to and detachment from a board, together with sufcient flexibility and elasticity to hold the cover taut on a board while sufficiently extensible to be easily attachable and detachable. f
To such end a cover embodying this invention includes a single fabric sheet o'f a width greater than the board to which it is applicable,
so as to be marginally extended over the lateral 1 edges and thence under the board, while the fabric is so cut at the foot on biased lines from each lateral margin to provide overlapping `folds and an included pocket for receiving the foot of a board.
The head portion .of the cover has a transverse section of elastic fabric secured tothe adjacent rhead of the cover sheet on a transverse line at the head edge and `thence extended downwardly over said head edge and undel` the bottom surface of the board. Also lateral narrow sections of elastic fabric extend over the lateral edges of the board for short distances and underlie the board. Thus a head pocket is formed between the coversheet and said elastic sections which is self adapting to the contour of the board in the vicinity of the\hea'd and serves to stretch the cover overl the top of the board.

lapping sections 5, 5 which form a pocket between the coversection l and the sections 5, 5 adapted to receive the foot of board B. The end 6 of said pocket conforms in contour to the end of the board and closes said pocket.
The head portion of cover C is formed of a across and sewed to section l and is sewedto an end portion 8 over the head edge of the board on a line 9. Similar sections of elastic fabricv I0, Ill are extended along the lateral margins of the cover from an edge Il of section v1 toward the f foot of the cover for correspondingly short distances and are sewed to .edge Il of section 1 and at points I2 ,I2 to the edge portions 3, 3." Thus. 1 the sections 'l and IIL-I0 form a pocket under cover section l for receiving" the headof board B. Pad P may be secured to section l or separate therefrom.
Cover C is attached to the board B by holding the cover `at a point toward the head section and pulling the cover with section I uppermost over the upper surface of the board until the foot of the board seats in the pocket formed `by sections 5,5, and then stretching the cover to an extent which will position section 1 so that it will slip under the board and the head of the board will seat of section 1 will allow the attachment of the head portion to the board ydue tc'the'elasticity of section 1. Also the marginal elastic sections I0, Il)
margins of the board in like manner.
manner shown anddescribed it will remain taut-'- 56 lystretched over board B against unintentionalv displacement, but may be readily detached by- -gbieats may, pparfas thed escratrrr Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the. cover de-V are cut Vdiagonally at 4, 4 so as to provide oversection 1 of elastic fabric extended transversely will be simultaneously drawn under the lateralv Obviously, whenuthe cover is attached in the f elongating the cover so as to pull the head pocket oiT of one end of the board, after which when the cover is pulled in a reverse direction the foot pocket will be detached.
The peculiar form of the sections 5, 5 forming the foot pocket serves to provide ample tension in the non-elastic material of the cover to neatly pull the marginlmortions 2 and 3over the edges of andunderfthe board'B by reason of the transverse tension and stretch of the material Ywhile the elasticity ofthe sections 1 and lll, l0 at the head 0f the board. supplements the transverse" andv tension -to assure aV smooth ironing surface and retention of the cover on the board.
