Be it known thab I, MA'1HIE SOUVIELLIE, of the eity 0f Montreal, in the District of Montreal and Province 0f Quebec, Oanada, have invented a eertain new .and useful Improvemeni; in Apparatus for Faeilitating the Use 0f Medicated Inhalatidns; and. I do hereby deelare that the following is a. full, elear, anti exaet deseription of the same.

My invention has for its object t0 provide, in eheap and simple form an apparatus which will facilitate the use of medicated inh alations for the relief and eure 0f diseases of the lungs and air-passages.

A represents a box, made prtaferably of tin am! of the form shown; bat il: may be'formed flf any other suitable material and of whatver shape will best: suit; the views of coustrueters 0r users. This box A is provided with a fixed head, A, which is preferably raised slightly above the top edges of the side walls of the box, so as to form the frustum This particular coustruction is, however, 11013 a feature 0f my invention, as the fixed head A may be convex, flat, or of any shape found efficient. The head is pierced, as shown, With any suitable number of holes 01 apertures, B B, disposed regnlarly with relation t0 eah ot;her and to the coutour of the head. Wben fonr such holes are used they may be placed, as shown, one at each corner ot' the head. The head is also provided with an inlet-tube, C, arranged ab the center 0f the head and projeeting some little distance on either side thereof. 'lo the upper edge 0f the rear wall of the box is hinged a solid or unperforated cover, E, which I prefer t0 make 0f the same genera-l eonfiguration as the head A. This solid cover is so arranged that when elosed there will remain a little space between tl1e lower ed ges, e e, ofthe eover ai1d. the npper edges of the side walls 0f the box, so that: a limited supply ofair will be admitted through said space 120 the perforated head in thin sheets from all sides 0f the box, the air then, in conseqnence of the regular arrangement of the perforations B in the head, being distrib= uted evenly throughout thebox and thoronghly commingling with the medicine therein er the vapors arising from the medicine. T0 this end the solid cover E is so seeured to the hinges e tha t the 1atter will support the edges 60 e e thereof a little dis-tance above the upper edges of the walls 0f the box, a catch, e, being arranged ab the front of the cover to give in a support at that point, all as fully shown in Fig. 2. It will be seen that by this 6 arrangement of the solid cover E it may be raised for the insertion of the medieament throngh tnbe 0 of the perforated. head, 01 closed to preVent dust and floating partieles from settling 0n the perforated head, or fiud- 7@ ing their way through the perforations thereof, while admitting air in small quantities t0 the perforated head equally from the four sides of the box. This, together with the deseri'oed manner of perforating the head, insures the even distribution of air within the box. The amount 0t' air admitted th-rough the head A may be regnlated by providing a greater 01' ess number 0t perforations, or the perforations may be partly elosed by tubular or fluted 8 p The box A is provided with the usual out let-tube, D, to which is attacbed a. flexible tube, d.

As the operation of this dass of iuhalers is 8 5 weil understood, adescri ption thereofis deemed unnecessary.

I am aware of the patente granted to Preutiss March 14, 1867, N0. 64,793 Morton and Gould November 13, 1847, N0. 5,365; J. C. 9 Sehooley August 18, 1857, N0. 18,020; and Brayton and Ourtis October l, 1867 N0. 69,396, and do not claim anything shown 01 deseribed in either of seid patents.

What I du claim, and desire to seeure by Let= ters Patent, is-

In an inhaler, the eombinatiou, with theboX A, having an outlet-tuae, D, ab one side, and provided witl1 a fixed perforated head, A, having an inlet-tube, O, the solid cover E, secured ab 0ne edge b y the hinges e, and provided ab its opposite edge with the catch e, whereby when the eover is closed there will remain a narrowspae between its lower edges,
