Plow.
No. 26,133. Patented Nov. 15. 1859.

J. T. TOWNSEND, OF BRENHAM, TEXAS.
IM PROVEM ENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 26, I 33, dated November 15, 1859.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
This invention consistsin a peculiar arrangement and combination of braces, landside, moldboard, and standards, substantially as hereinafter described, whereby said parts may be attached to iron beams and a very durable and efficient implement obtained.
To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, I will I proceed to describe it.
A represents the landside of the plow, and B is the standard at its front part, said standard being arectangular bar and slightlycurved at its lower part, at its junction with the landside, as shown clearly in Fig. 1. At the back part of the landside A there is an opening or mortise to receive the lower end of a standard or upright, G. This standard or upright C has a curved arm, D, projecting from it, and t0 the back part of the inner side of the landside a curved arm or brace, E, is attached by a bolt, a.
To the front part of the landside A the share F is attached, said share extending upward a short distance on the standard B and permanently secured to it. The landside, standards, and share are all of metal.
G is a cross-bar, which extends from the un der side of the share F to the landside, and H is the mold-board, constructed of wood, of the usual curved form. The front end of the moldboard is fitted underneath the share F and rests on the cross-bar G, and the front part of the mold-board extends over to the landside A and abuts against the standard B and landside, and is secured thereto by a screw, 1). The front part of the mold-board is formed with shoulders to abut against the cross-bar G and the back edge of the share F.
The curved arm D of the standard or upright 0 is attached at its outer end to the inner side of the mold-board, as also is the outer end of the arm or brace E.
To the back art of the mold-board a brace, 1, is attached, and this brace extends backward sufficiently to be attached to one of the handles near its junction with the plow-beam. The upper ends of the standards B O are secured to the plowbeam by being keyed in sockets, as shown in red, Fig. 2. By' this arrangement the plow may be secured firmly to a metal beam, and the difficulty hitherto attending metal-beam plows obviated, for by my invention all the parts are firmly braced and rendered secure, and at the same time a requisite degree of lightness is obtained.
I do not claim separately any of the within described parts; but
I do claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The arrangement and combinationof the landside A, standards B U, mold-board H, share F, braces or arms D E I, and cross-bar Gr, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
