Description

INTERCHANGEABLE TRIPOD FOOT TIP Filed Dec. 1a, 1948 ZSnnentor 0444s .54 TZMHA Patented Sept. 30, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE INTERCHANGEABLE TRIPOD FOOT TIP Allen J. Saltzman, Milwaukee, Wis.
Application December 18, 1948, Serial No. 66,087 I 1 Claim. (01. 248193) This invention relates to improvements in interchangeable tripod foottips, and more particularly to a novel interchangeable tripod foot tip of the type which is permanently attached to the tripod foot.
An object of the invention is to provide a tripod foot tip having two points which may rapidly be interchanged and which may quickly be secured in either position for use.
Other and further objects of the invention will be apparent as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a view in perspective of a tripod equipped with an interchangeable tripod foot tip embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view of the tripod foot with the interchangeable tip removed.
Fig. 3 is a side view in elevation of the device.
Fig. 4 is a view partly in elevation and partly in vertical section of the foot tip.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the interchangeable foot tip element.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, numeral l refers to the device generally, having a platform I l, with the legs 12, I3 and I4 pivoted tangentially thereon, the telescopic extensions I5, 16 and ll of said leg and the secondary extensions or feet l8, l9 and 20. Fig. 2 shows one of the feet I8 having a split lower end 2| provided with apertures as at 22 and the slot at 23. A reversible .tip element 24 has the rubber tip 25 and the pointed metallic tip 26 and is apertured at 21 to accommodate the pin 30 which is threaded at 3| to engage in the threaded ap erture at 32 of the split end 2|. The reversible tip element 24 is journaled on the pin 30. A sleeve 33 embraces the foot l8 and is limited in downward movement by the flange elements 34 and 35.
In use, it is found that under varying conditions either the rubber tip elements or the metallic pointed elements26 may be most effective and appropriate for use. To reverse the points, the sleeve 33 is withdrawn upwardly and the reversible member 24 is disposed in a selected position so as to present the desired tip element toward the ground or surface on which the tripod pin is to be placed. The sleeve 33 is then moved downwardly to abut against the flange elements 34 and 35, and the reversible tip member 22 will then be held securely in place.
It will be understood that the device is capable of various modifications in structure and design, without departing from the spirit of the invention, within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
An interchangeable tripod foot including a longitudinally slotted lower end, plane faces longitudinally interiorly of said slot, a journal pin fixed transversely centrally through said slot below the longitudinal center of the slot, a rectangular reversible element having a pair of aligned end recesses journaled freely on said pin, an unyielding pointed tip on one end of the reversible element threaded in one end recess, a rubber tip on the opposite end thereof held in the other end recess, and a sleeve embracing said foot with a sliding fit for securing the reversible element in either of its two aligned positions within the slot.
