Description

Sgpt. 16, 1952 1 HAMMOND HAfRCUTTING AND COLLECTING DEVICE Filed May 28, 1951 IN V EN TOR.
Phi/a Hammond Patented seer. 16, 1952 fatness i HmnoUr'rmGfiiND COLLECTING DEVICE Philo L. Hammond, Massillon, Ohio Application May 28, 1951, Serial No. 228,631
g This invention relates tonew and useful-improvements in hair cutting devices and the primary object of the present invention is to provide 'asmall and'compact rigid receptacle having an open side for receiving cut hair together with cutting means, mountediin the receptacle alon a toothededge at the open side of the receptacle, for cutting hair 'as the device is manipulated through a users hair by'one hand of a user.
"Another important object of the present invention is to provide a hair cutting and collecting de vice including novel and improved means for detachably securing a pair of relatively inclined razor blades within the same. I v 'A' further object of the present invention is to provide a hair cutting and collecting device of the aforementioned character wherein the re ceptacle is formed of two detachably connected plastic walls that are quickly and readilyseparated to permit cleaning thereof and removal of the hair passing into the receptacle.
' A still further aim of the present invention is to provide a hair trimming and collecting device that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, neat and attractive in appearance, inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the present invention showing one of the holding screws removed from its normal position to permit separation of the receptacle forming halves;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 2-2 of Figure 1; and,v
Figure 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral It represents an elongated housing member or hair collecting receptacle that is composed of two, preferably plastic, concavoconvexed walls [2 and I4.
A flange I6 is provided on the rear edge and end edges of the wall I 2 and fits behind the end edges and rear edge of the wall l4. Rigid webs l8 project outwardly from the ends of the walls I2 14 Claims; (01. o-soj f. f
and I4, and the webs 18 are integrally formed with enlargements 20. The webs and enlarges ments of the wall I2 rest against thewebs and enlargements of the wall. I4, and the enlarge-l ments on thewall l2 are formed with apertures that register with internally threaded apertures in the enlargements on the wall I4, sothat screws 22 may be employed for detachablysecuringl the enlargements of one wall to theenlargements of the other wall,-whereby the walls may be separated for removing hair collectedtherebetween and for cleaning. I a I The forward side of the receptacle lfliseformed with an entrance opening-for cuthain'or stated differently, the forwardedge 24 of the wall- I2-is spaced sufiiciently'fromzthe forward edg .25 of the wall I 4 r to define an entrance opening 0 for out hair. The forward edge'26 of the wall 14 is formed with a plurality of transverse inwardly tapering slots to form comb teeth 28 between adjacent slots and a toothed edge for the wall [4,
A pair of relatively inclined razor blades 32 are held clamped against the inner face of the wall l4 by an elongated clamping plate 34 whose ends are secured to the wall [4 by headed fasteners 36 whose shanks extend through the wall l4 and the ends of the plate 34. The threaded inner ends of the fasteners 36 receivably engage nuts 38 that are tightened to hold the plate 34 against the inner face of wall l4.
Plate 34 is formed with a concavo-convexed portion 40 that overlies the reinforced edges 42 of the blades 33, 32 and whose forward edge bears against the blades 30, 32 to hold the blades against the inner face of wall I4.
The inner faces of the teeth 28, at their inner ends, are formed with notches 44 that form seats for the beveled edges of the blades 30 and 32.
The notches 44 in one half of the teeth 28 lie in a plane inclined relative to the plane through the notches 44 in the other half of the teeth, so that the blades 30, 32 will [be relatively inclined as shown in Figure 2.
In practical use of the present invention, the receptacle In is grasped by one hand of a user and passed through the user's hair with the toothed edge of wall [4 functioning as a comb to lift the hair and the blades 30, 32 will cut the hair whereupon the cut hair will enter the receptacle l0.
Having described the claimed as new is:
1. A hair cutting device comprising a housin member composed of two concavo-convexed invention, what is walls secured together, said housing member 30 and l having an opening in one side, one of said walls having a toothed comb forming edge at the open side of the housing member, and cutting means mounted on said one wall and disposed in said housing member, said cutting means overlying the toothed edge of said one wall, said toothed edge including a plurality of teeth having inner faces formed with notches, and said cutting means including a pair of relatively inclined razor blades having cutting edges seated insaid notches.
2. A hair cutting device comprising a housing member forming a hair collecting receptacle,
and lower detachably connected concavo -convexed walls, said housing members having an opening at one side to receive out hair, said v entrance opening for hair to enter the receplower wall including a toothed edge at the open- 4 tacle, the forward edge of said second wall being toothed to form a comb, and a pair of blades held on the inner face of said second wall and including beveled edges overlying the teeth of said toothed edge.
4. A hair cutting and collectin device comprising a receptacle sufiiciently small to be grasped and manipulated by one hand of a user, said receptacle including first and second elongatedconcavo convex walls;- said walls each including end edges and forward and rear edges, a flange about the end edges and rear edge of I the first Wall seated behind the end edges and ing in said housing member, cutting means overlying the lower wall and the toothed edge of said lower wall, an elongated clamping plate having asportion overlying the cutting means and holding the cutting means against said lower wall, andfasteners extending through said lower walland said plate and securing the plate t the lower walls v 3. A hair cutting and collecting device comprisin a: receptacle; sufficiently small to 'be grasped and manipulated by one hand of a user, saidreceptacle including first and second elongated .concavo-convexed walls, said walls each including end edges and forward and rear, edges, a flange :about the end edges and rear edge of the:.first' wall seatedbehind the'endedges and rear edge' of' the seconds wall means onthe ends of said-walls, detachablyr-securing the walls togethertto' form'the receptacle, the forward edges of :saidywall's' being spaced apart-to define an entrance opening for hair to enterthe receprearedge oi the second wall, means on the ends of said walls detachably securing the walls together tolform the receptacle, the forward edges of said walls being spaced apart to define an tacle, the forward edge of said second wall being toothed to form a comb, and a pair of blades held onthe inner face of said second wall and including beveled'edges overlying the teeth of said toothed-edge, theteeth of said toothed edge including inner faceseach having a notch, the beveled edgesof said blades being disposed in saidnotches'; J
