This invention relates to an improved hydraulic sausage-stufling' machine, the primary object of the inventionbing' to provide a more easily operated and mor'elefiicient device of this kind, which can be made in a rugged and serviceable form at relatively'low cost.
Other important] objects and advantageous features of the invention will be apparent from the following description and theaccompanying drawings, wherein, for-purposes of illustration herein, a specific embodiment is set forth in detail. a

Referring in detail to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parts throughout the several views, the numeral B'generally designates the cylindrical chamber or casing of the device, having a closed plane bottom I from which spaced legs 8 depend, having feet 9 on their lower ends for spacing the chamber 6 above a supporting surface (not shown). The open upper end of the casing 6 has an external annular flange [0.
Ram means comprises an inverted U-shaped ram arm H which extends diametrically across the open upper end of the chamber 6, when in operative position, and has longitudinally-projecting feet l2 and I3 on its opposite ends adapted to supportably rest upon the upper side of the flange ID, as shown in Figure 1. The foot I3 is pivoted in place on the flange ID by a headed pivot l4 traversing the foot [3 and the flange In.
The other foot I2, as shown in detail in Figure 4, is formed with a slot l5 defining bifurcations l3, and the flange It] has a similar and registered slot I! which extends downwardly also throu h a triangular reinforcement l8, thereby defining bifurcations IS. A headed cross-pin 20 extends through holes 2| in the bifurcations l9, and through a hole 22 near the lower end of a locking rod 23, having a locking head 24 threaded axially on its upper end.
The locking head 24 is cylindrical and is 2 Claims. (Cl. 17 39) larger in diameter; than the slotsl5 and I1,- so that when in position upon the upper surfaces of the bifurcations and screwed down thereupon,
the head 24 securely locks the ram arm I I in digametrical operative position on the chamber 6,
as shown in Figures 1 and 4. A headed handle bar 25 passes loosely through a diametrical hole 26 in the head 24 to facilitate manual tightening. down of the head 2 4, :and subsequent loosening of the head and outward and downward swing ing of the locking rod 23 to the inoperative posi tion shown in Figure 3, wherein the ram arm H can be swung to an out-of-the-way position.
Fixed to rise from the middle of the ram arm ll is a tubular standard or cylinder 21 to the upper end of which is attached a conventional type hydraulic jack consisting of a hydraulic jack cylinder 28 including a shaft or piston rod 29 extending downwardly through the standard and through theranr arm- II. The jack 28 includes paired operating levers 30 pivotally mounted to swingon the-axes 3| andconnected at their outer ends to a laterally-extending operating handle 32. A Jack-releasingpin 33 is included on the jack 28 for releasing the pressure'in the jack cylinder after the pistonrod 29 has been forced downwardly by operation of the handle 32;
A coneavo-convex pressure plate 34 fitting the chamber 6 is mounted on the lower end of the jack shaft 29 and has handles 35 rising therefrom with which the lower ends of helical-elevating springs 36 are engaged, whose upper ends are anchored to the arm II at opposite sides of the jack shaft 29. The springs 36 are arranged to elevate the pressure plate 34, after release of the pressure in the jack cylinder, to a level above the top of the chamber 6, as shown in Figure 3, wherein the ram arm, jack and plate assembly can be swung to one side to provide free access for charging the chamber 6 with meat 3?.
The chamber bottom 1 has a discharge means embodying depending diametrical tubular enlargement 38 terminating at one side of the chamber 6 at 39, and provided with a removable nozzle 40 through which meat is discharged under pressure into a sausage casing (not shown). The tubular enlargement 38 provides a passage from the center of the chamber bottom I to the nozzle 4!! through which meat 31 in the chamber 6 when compressed by downward operation of the plate 34 thereupon is forced. The plate 34 is operated downwardly by vertical oscillation of the jack handle 3|, with the release pin 33 in inward position.
Substantial suction or vacuum occurs in the tubular enlargement 38 when the pressure plate 34 reaches the chamber bottom I which prevents the raising of the plate 34. To break or relieve such vacuum, a push-up pin 41 works through the hole 38' in the bottom of the tubular enlargement 3s and has a flared upper end or head 42. An operating lever 43, mounted intermediate its ends on a transverse pin 54 carried by and between the arms of an inverted U-shaped bracket 45 on the side of the chamber bottom i opposite the nozzle AB, has its inner end slotted and pivoted at 46 to the lower end of the pin 4 I, so that by depressing the operating lever 43, the pin M can be raised to engage the bottom of the plate 35 and elevate the plate 34 sufi'icie'ntly to break the vacuum and enable the springs 38 to raise the pressure plate 3%. However, before the plate 3d can be elevated in this manner, the releasing pin 33 of the hydraulic jack 28 must be turned to release the hydraulic action.
An expanding helical spring 4? is circumposed on the pin 41 and compressed between the enlargement 38 and the lever 43 to keep the pin 4! normally in depressed, inoperative position,
shown in Figure 2.
I'claim:
1. In a sausage-stufiing machine, a casing having an open end and a closed end, discharge means on the closed end of the casing, a rain arm extending across and secured to the open end of the casing, a cylinder secured to said ram arm and extending axially with respect to the casing, said. cylinder projecting outwardly with respect to the open end of the casing, a hydraulic ram including a jack cylinder mounted on and communicating with the outer end of said cylinder, a piston rod arranged in said cylinder and extending inwardly with respect to said ram arm, a pressure plate secured on the inward end of said piston rod and fitting the interior of said casing, manual means on said jack cylinder operable to produce pressure in said jack cylinder and in said cylinder for driving said piston rod and pressure plate toward the closed end of the easing, and pressure-releasing means on said jack cylinder for releasing pressure present in said jack cylinder and said cylinder to permit retraction of said piston rod and pressure plate in a direction toward said open end of the casing, said discharge means comprising a conduit having a wall formed with an opening, a push pin positioned through said opening for longitudinal communicating with the outer end of said cylinmovement in a direction toward and away from the said pressure plate, said push pin having a head normally closing said opening, and an operating lever pivoted on the casing and connected to said pin for moving said pin in a direction toward said pressure plate to relieve a vacuum present in the casing between the pressure plate and the closed end of the casing.
2. In a sausage-stuffing machine, a casing having an open end and a closed end, discharge means onthe closed end of the casing, a ram arm extending across and secured to the open end of the casing, a cylinder secured to said ram arm and extending axially with respect to the casing, said cylinder projecting outwardly with respect to the open end of the casing, a hydraulic rain including a jack cylinder mounted on and der, a piston rod arranged in said cylinder and extending inwardly with respect to said ram arm, a pressure plate secured on the inward end of said piston rod and fitting the interior of said casing, manual means on said jack cylinder operable to produoepressure in said jack cylinder and'in said cylinder for driving said piston rod and pressure plate toward the closed end of the casing, and pressure-releasing means on said ack cylinder for releasing pressure present in said jack cylinder and said cylinder to' permit retraction of said piston rod and pressure plate in 'a direction toward said open end of the casng, and means for retracting said pressure plate and piston rodtoward the open end of the casing whenever pressure in the jack cylinder is re leased by operation'of said pressure-releasing means, said retracting means comprising spring means secured to andstretched between said ram arm and said pressure plate.
