Description

July 15, 1952 c. A. STEEN S'I EAM BOILING APPARATUS Filed Feb. 26, 1948 f 9 6 7 s A INVENTOR jieerz,
ATTORNEYS Patented July 15, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Carl August Steen, Getinge, Sweden Application February 26, 1948, Serial No. 11,247 In Sweden January 13, 1947 (C1. ZN-40) Claims.
This invention relates generally to a steam boiling apparatus, and more particularly to an apparatus comprising range top having a cooking hole for a detachable boiling vessel immersed therein.
One object of the invention is to provide a sealing device for the boiling vessel which firmly prevents leakage of steam between the boiling vessel and the edge of the cooking hole.
Another object is to provide a locking device for the boiling vessel capable of preventing the pressure of the steam in contact with the boiling vessel to rise above a predetermined value.
A further object is to obtain a locking device for the boiling vessel which is easy to operate, which is small and compact and simple in con struction.
The accompanying drawing shows, for the purpose of illustrating the present invention, a preferred embodiment in which the invention may take form, it being understood that the drawing is illustrative of the invention rather than limiting the same.
In the drawing:
. Figure 1 is a vertical section through the looking device and the sealing device.
Figure 2 is a plan View of the locking device.
. Figure 3 is a side view thereof.
Figure 4 is a small scale vertical sectional view through one of the cooking wells, illustrating the general organization of parts.
The steam boiling apparatus, illustrated in the drawing is provided with a range top having one I or more'cooking holes l5- therein, the edges In of which are engaged by a sealing ring ll of rubber or other elastic material. A boiling vessel I2 provided with an outstanding flange I3 is inserted in the cooking hole 15 illustrated and rests with its flange I3 on the sealing ring H, against which the flange is pressed by a rotary pawl 8 formed as a lifting hook. As indicated in the drawing by the wall l4 welded to the under side of the range top I a steam jacket [4 encloses the cooking vessel, and the steam may be generated therein by electrodes it in water or may be supplied from the outside.
A tube 2 passing through the range top I and welded thereto has its main portion beneath the range top. The portion extending above the top is threaded on the outside as at 2 and is provided with a cover 3 provided with interior screw threads 3 which by means of a wrench may be drawn tight and thereby locked against the top. The cover 3 has a central opening which forms an upper slide guide for a spindle 4 with a sleeve 5. A washer 6 on the spindle exerts a pressure against the sleeve by means of a nut I, and the sleeve presses the rotary pawl 8 against the countersunk head of the spindle 4. Two helical springs 9 in the tube 2 rest with the ends against the washer 6 and the cover 3 thereby pressing the rotary pawl downwards against the flange [3. The rotary pawl may thus be turned round. together with the spindle to be resiliently moved over the flange so that this is pressed against the sealing ring with a pressure determined by the springs. When the pawl 8 is lifted the washer 5 serves as the lower guide of the spindle 4.
The pressure of the springs is adjusted to resist the normal pressure on the boiling vessel, but if the steam pressure by any occurring fault should rise to an injurious value the rotary pawls are lifted by the steam so that the excess of steam may escape thereby preventing accidents and damage to the boiling apparatus.
I claim:
